| BVery (227), Burnsville, Minnesota | | September 1, 2011 Okay, I flat out love this place and it has nothing to do with the beers. This vibe is terrific - great patio, and my kinda bar inside - dark stone dungeon in the basement. Flight of 10 beers + a root beer sampler for $10 - can’t beat that. Killer cheese curds. Friendly bartenders. Beers were just so-so, and that’s too bad, but I’d come here everytime I’m in the area because the vibe is so cool. 10 house taps + 1 guest tap. Plus the root beer, which was great. | | StefanSD (41), Lakeside, California | | August 15, 2011 Fairly easy to find right off hwy 47. Set in the basement of an old mill this place has great ambiance. A nice stop on my way down south from Northern Wisconsin. Ordered a Reuben sandwich and a six glass sampler. Most of the beers were quite good but none exceptional. And the sandwich was adequate but not great, very good sweet potato fries however. Nice place but not really worth going out of your way for. | | Scubatrip (35), Annandale, Virginia | | August 21, 2010 Located in the cellar of an old grain mill building, the name is quite appropriate. Feels a bit like a bomb shelter in England during WWII. It is a stone cellar. Decent sized dining area, outside seating if you prefer. Private dining room with full wet bar available for reservations Separate and neat bar room with a couple tvs. Only odd thing was that the 5 locals at the bar at noon on a Saturday were watching European soccer. Kinda dark inside, so beware of daylight if you come here for lunch. Lunch far was pretty good, though only had a burger. Menu seemed American enough for dinner time. Id go back. | | dekester1 (27), Neenah, Wisconsin | | May 8, 2010 [ Updated August 1, 2010 ] This was once the old Adler Brau microbrewery. The Stone Cellar folks have done a nice job of maintaining and improving on what they acquired. Nice ambiance in the bar area that fits the name - a stone walled cellar. Good selection of brews and great service. I would recommended stopping in and trying it out! | | kseecs16 (184), Naperville, Illinois | | March 8, 2010 Located just off river in an old warehouse/brewery this place has cool staff (though they can be a little inattentive), comfy vibe and good tunes, usually from a staff members iPod. No pretension about this place. When it comes to beer they have a nice stable of year round beers supplemented by some more adventurous seasonal and one-off offerings. Beer is good, not great largely but this place is by far your best option in Appleton. Pizza is very good, thin crust tavern style and the menu offers some diverse options, though I stick with the pub grub and pizza. | | arkurzynski (58), West Bend, Wisconsin | | January 1, 2010 Nice location and nice setup for the restaurant/bar area. Regular brewery brews on tap and a nice selection on the menu. Food is very good. | | Nuffield (85), Roseville, Minnesota | | September 1, 2009 This is definitely worth a stop if you’re in Appleton. The building is somewhat cool--it isn’t done up particularly fancy and has tables and booths that make it a family restaurant of sorts with a somewhat dive bar feel. But it was fine for my family with small kids. Pizza was very good, definitely worth it. 10 beer sampler for $10 is great; a lot of mediocre beers but some very good ones including a special or two. Again, worth stopping. | | opkutech (15), Wisconsin | | July 30, 2009 Although the food is a bit pricy, I have never had a bad meal here. The beer seems to be very original which is one of their strong points (I had never heard of a Smoked Porter before). After reading the comments prior to mine, I can only say, your trip to a brew pub is exactally what you make of it, and I love stopping here on occation to see whats new on the list. | | gws57 (89), Saint Charles, Illinois | | March 3, 2009 Visited for lunch on a Saturday in February as part of WinTour 3. Service was a bit slow at first but friendly and attentive, if not extremely helpful, by the end. Seated at the interesting bar. Plenty of choices of good beers to choose from. My reuben sandwich was very greasy but wasn’t terrible. All in all, I would definitely like to come back and try this place again. Bonus: as we were leaving, told us where to get their "competetor’s" beers... I love small town brewpub culture!! | | satan165 (101), River Grove, Illinois | | February 6, 2009 spotty inconsistent service. my waiter was atrocious and got a $2 tip, the first time i dared to be so cheap in years (and this meal was expensed on business -- i didnt even pay!). total unacquainted with the brews at all. i sampled two, neither was very good and one was horrid. i was excited to see a place this small tap a firkin but the results were disastrious. i had the perch dinner (5-6 pieces of perch, fries and coleslaw) which was an astounding $15.99. it was edible however the fries (while still good) were certainly of the frozen variety. ambaince was nice and kept things lively. place was packed on a friday night, certainly wasnt for the beer or the value. they did have one guest tap (goose island mild winter). parking is really bad, there is a big lot in back but you cant park there (its for the adjacent comedy club) leaving you the small lot in front (which was was completely boxed into with my work van and almost was trapped). overall |
