| tmongoose (41), Louisville, Kentucky | | January 23, 2012 Totally taken aback with this place. Of course they serve their beers. 6 on tap this past Friday. Ran out of one but plenty to choose from. Big open room with picnic table settings and a band playing. Rawesome tunes and beer. There was a food booth there not sure if part of highland or not so not rating it. But next time back in asheville will be going back. | | smoosh (32), New Albany, Indiana | | December 27, 2011 I was there early in the day, but I could see it being a really cool place at night. The problem with selection was that they had about 7 brews on and 3 were porters. I had an IPA, which was good. | | Guyute_Pig (39), Black Mountain, North Carolina | | December 4, 2011 [ Updated March 21, 2012 ] These guys have a wonderful tap room. Free live music indoors during the cold months and in a big open field out back during the warmer months. Always have 1 or 2 brewer reserve beers on tap that are a step up from their regular beers (which I think are pretty disappointing, how can one not make a quality IPA?). Super friendly staff. | | Braudog (611), Hampton, Virginia | | October 7, 2011 October 2011. This is a cavernous, crowd-favoring place off the beaten path. With live music on the weekend, it seems this place fills up, too. With good beers and lots of free shwag, why not drop in here!? As the original place in Asheville, you should feel obliged! (#561) | | hopsdiva (13), Atlanta, Georgia | | June 13, 2011 It’s safe to say that Asheville wouldn’t be the beer mecca it is if not for the pioneer spirit of Highland Brewing Company owner/founder Oscar Wong. The brewery which began in 1994 has expanded its brand and is available in seven states. You can tour the brewery and sample beers like Gaelic Ale, Kashmir IPA and the seasonal offerings in the new tasting room which is open Thursday - Saturday with food and music available Friday and Saturday. The atmosphere is very laid-back so grab a seat at one of the indoor picnic tables under the giant fan and enjoy beers from Asheville’s oldest brewery. | | beernovice39 (146), South Carolina | | June 4, 2011 Huge area for people to listen to the band or talk. Decent brew | KathrynGrace13 (2), Asheville, North Carolina does not count - explanation | | November 2, 2010 My favorite brewery in Asheville. The first time I visited was on my 21st birthday on the brews cruise. They were so friendly and seemed honestly excited for me. I got a free pint glass, a poster, and they let our group tap a cask of oatmeal porter(yum!). They constantly kept my cup full and there wasn’t a beer I didn’t like. My favorites are the oatmeal porter, kashmir ipa, black mocha stout, gaelic ale, and the seven sisters abbey style ale. All are so delicious I can’t decide which is my favorite. | | brentfeesh (77), Gadsden, Alabama | | September 26, 2009 This place is way bigger than I expected. Attended for the release of their Tasgal Ale. Very good brew that they have not released in some time. Anyhow, the brewery is pretty cool and the employees were all nice. They had a band set up out side and an area for games (people were playing corn hole). I imagine this is just a working brewery most of the time but if you can get in for a tasting it is a neat place to see. | | tronraner (110), Walland, Tennessee | | March 17, 2009 I’ve been both to the old location in downtown and the bigger newer one. Gotta say, the newer one has more of a factory atmosphere to it, but I guess ambience isn’t really a goal of an industrial park. Staff has always been nice. Worth stopping by for a visit if you like getting behind the scenes. | | dchmela (96), Orlando, Florida | | September 8, 2008 Toured brewery as part of brews cruise. Nice tour plus lots of samples made this a very cool stop. Only downer was they were not selling merchandise, so I couldn’t get a shirt. |
