| Guyute_Pig (39), Black Mountain, North Carolina | | March 13, 2012 Run of the mill Whole Foods selection. Nothing really special to be found, but they do have some really good sales. | | beernovice39 (146), South Carolina | | February 26, 2012 Another whole foods. Decent selection but not as extensive as Florida. | | DiarmaidBHK (307), Pennsylvania | | December 22, 2011 This is one of the nicer beer selections I’ve seen at a Whole Foods. It’s basically a chain of organic, health food grocery stores. Of course, this being Asheville, you don’t see a lot of iconography announcing the store as a Whole Foods and the building somehow blends into the environment. It’s not far from downtown Asheville. As others have noted the parking sucks so get there early. They have a lot of bombers and a few seasonal locals I haven’t seen at the other local bottle shops. They had a guy buzzing around the beer section but he didn’t seem super approachable. Still they have a fantastic selection and the prices, even by Asheville standards, are really good. | | djpaige (12), Michigan | | June 19, 2011 Big chic grocery store atmosphere (which seems like an oxymoron until you step in). Great beer selections tucked in the back, especially local fare. Was a little crowded with narrow isles making it hard to stand and stare at the product. Great pricing on their diverse selection. Service was typical of a big grocery store: hit and miss (but friendly when found). | demdeac40 (5), Etowah, North Carolina does not count - explanation | | April 17, 2010 Great place for both food and beer. Even some nice wine if you so desire. Nice selection and changing all the time. You can usually find the latest special release or seasonal offerings. | berikso (3), South Carolina does not count - explanation | | February 14, 2010 Not a beer store, a health food store first an for most. Good selection of craft brews, not many large formats, no draft. Pretty average in comparison with other corporate health food stores i.e world market, but really no sales people to really geek out with. A decent place to grab a 6-pack. | | branimal9 (14), Greenville, South Carolina | | January 15, 2010 It’s hard for me to make a complete asessment of this place because I’ve only ever stopped there for the beer, not the food. That said, they have a great selection of both cold & room temp. beer, as well as growlers of several local breweries. Last time I was there I scooped up a growler of Pisgah IPA, which was both delicious & well priced. Service has been good as well. The same dude has been there every time I’ve been in, and he’s been very friendly and willing to help out. Definitely worth stopping in if you are in the area. | | petey (14), Fayetteville, North Carolina | | January 1, 2010 It’s not your usual grocery store. Has a really good variety. Food counter and beer selection is great. | | Gmku (22), Asheville, North Carolina | | November 19, 2009 I doubt you’ll find a grocery store of any sort as absolutely tasty as this one or as well-stocked in the wine and beer department. The beer section is full of the best and not-so-best among American micros, and also finely represents Ashevilles many local breweries. You’ll find such notables as most of the Victory beers here, for example. It’s my go-to place for picking up beer these days. Prices are very reasonable, too. I only go to Bruisin Ales downtown when I’m looking for somethign a little more obscure--and where the prices are a bit higher. In short, really no way you can go wrong at Greenlife. I ding the service a bit because not all the beer staff seem all that knowledgable. A couple of times I’ve asked one of the regular SAs about a beer and he’s basically read information from the label back to me. HA! | | Drake (295), Charlottesville, Virginia | | March 6, 2009 [ Updated April 15, 2010 ] A standard all natural grocery store. The employees are nice, but I didn’t see any in the beer/wine section and I had no cause to ask questions. Prices are decent. The parking lot is from some inner circle of hell. Long selection of chilled beers. Some foreign, lots of American and a ton of local beer. Also some nonchilled selections. Stop here before you hit Bruisin’ Ales, because the prices are a bit better and there will be a good bit of local stuff here that is at Bruisin. But if you go to one place, go to Bruisin. |
