| jw0406 (29), atlanta, Georgia | | October 2, 2011 Great bar, a staple in Atlant. Good selection of beer on tap and in bottles. Food is gbasic for a bar, but service is great. | fireteacher (5), Georgia does not count - explanation | | June 28, 2011 Manuel’s is an institution, really impossible to rate in one way - this is where all the Atlanta firefighters, paramedics and cops congregated for "decompression" thirty years ago, and probably still do. The decor has not changed since I was a regular back then, but the beer selection is significantly better. The food is, well, you don’t come here for the food. It’s like going home, though a lot of the spirit seems to have departed along with the late owner, Manuel Maloof. | | NachlamSie (354), Tennessee | | January 26, 2010 I didn’t really expect to see this on Ratebeer. We stopped here on the way to the Drunken Unicorn merely because most of the other bars in the area I knew had an above average beer selection were packed out the door. Manuel’s Tavern turned out to be a pleasant surprise. The beer selection was not mind blowing, but very solid with beers such as Terrapin Dark Side and Sweetwater Happy Ending on tap. A few other quality, though more commonly available, offerings were on draft as well. The ambiance is of a very typical neighborhood bar with flat screen TV’s everywhere and darts and pool tables. I had Brunswick stew which was lip-smacking and a few bites of fish and chips which were fair enough. I might just find myself here again one day. | | mcrowther (16), ATLANTA, Georgia | | November 19, 2009 The prototypical neighborhood bar- not a great beer selection, but that has improved in recent years and they always have a few good ones on tap. Food is solid but not great, service excellent. One of my weekly hangouts Sunday for trivia. | | Birdiebeagle (44), Perkasie, Pennsylvania | | March 31, 2009 Good bar. Great selection of beer on tap and in bottles. Food is good and decently priced. Service was okay but the place was packed. Nice bar with good beer. | | CheersMate (132), Fremont (Seattle), Washington | | January 14, 2009 Wish I wasn’t saying this but Manuels has gone downhill. This place was awesome, at one point in time. This place had great service and a decent selection of beer for a very easily missed location off North Highland. This place at one point in time had two televisions that were on a low volume setting so you could enjoy conversation on any day of the week. It really was never hectically busy, but had enough patrons for some good background noise. Now, this place has multiple televisions cranked up, and it always playing CNN or some other bull crap station. Plus, the crowd is not from mid to late 20’s, more like 30’s to 50’s . I see a few young people (like myself, I am 24) come in from time to time, but it is mostly older working people that stop by after work, and clap every single time a Democrat shows his face on the television. This is like the political hotspot now. They always have debate events, and other things of that nature going on. I thought the purpose of a tavern was to get away from lif | | Sammy (408), Toronto, Ontario | | February 6, 2008 A so-so place for craft beer. Packed mid-week evening. Kind of dimmer lighting, long beer, narrow passageway, a kind of extended Pizza Plant, as only half a dozen taps were certainly craft, and three of them were local offerings. Also fourty bottles with somewhat more selection. Mid and late twenties crowd. Did not care to stay long. | | Cybercat (92), Georgia | | March 18, 2007 Manuel’s is an Atlanta institution with a rich history. It has several rooms of various sizes, a couple of which are private so they are perfect for meetings. Last time I was there, they had a house beer on tap that was excellent. Food and service are very good. Considering how long it has been around, I was amazed that I am the first to rate this joint. |
