I was a little disappointed in this place the last time I visited. They chose to be 18 and over in order to allow smoking inside. They still have great burgers and a good beer selection, but I’d prefer to not be bathed in smoke when I go for a good beer. Seriously, considering how empty the place was when I visited, they’re running off more customers than they attract by allowing smoking.

Cool bar, thier website/menu kind of explains thier attitude & decor. They have have big bald headed biker dudes who are professional bartenders behind the bar who aren’t going to talk you through anything, thye are there to pour your drink and rip on the guy who deserves to be made fun of. Thier food is pretty good but certainly nothing special. The selection was pretty good with a couple dozen taps and more than another hundred bottles. Cool kind of unique place where the frat stars won’t hang out with a good selection of beers.

I try to visit this place anytime I am in Mylanta. It gets busy and parking is a pain (like everywhere in mdi-town), but the food and beer selection is great.

Packed on a Friday night - I guess from being featured on that "Man vs Food" show. Regardless, the service was quick and friendly and, uh, kinda hot... The burgers were excellent and the beer selection, while not mind blowing, was more than adequate. Fun place.

Laid-back atmosphere that has a nice mix of all sorts of people, but seemed mostly the college and punk crowd when I was there. Fairly good selection of brews and nice enough servers. Didn’t try the food. I’m just getting too old for the loud music and smoking places, but otherwise this is a nice hangout.

A rock/punk type of bar, not for me. Smoking and the like. Body piercings, not too bad in this conservative state. Some craft beers and imports, nice part of town. But nothing special-one non-local craft beer. Laid back service. Good size of the place.

I did not have the same experience at the Vortex that most everyone else did. I was there for part of my bachelor party, and first off, they were either out of or don’t carry the first 5 beers I tried to order.. #s 8 and 9 too. The food looked good and everyone else liked theirs, but my burger was cold and bloody, even after I sent it back. The atmosphere was cool, and from where we were sitting, we had a good view of the queue for the gay bar across the street.. which at times was entertaining. I will re-rate if I make it back, as it appears to be better than my experience there.

The Vortex is a fun bar, unpretentious and with just the right amount of sleaze. The outrageous decor includes some skeletons (I presume they are plastic models, not the real thing!) on motorcycles, sort of the bar’s mascot. Beer selection is very good - they have a number of local brews and quite a few craft brews, plus an impressive selection of imports, both in bottles and on tap. Food is delicious and reasonably priced. Serving people are quick, friendly but not overly so, and efficient. Music is turned up but not so loud that you can’t have a nice conversation. Smoking is allowed, so it is open only to patrons 18 and older; however, this means you don’t have to worry about screaming brats running amok and interrupting your meal, date, Meetup, or whatever. A great place to get together with friends, or just hang out and enjoy some good brewskis.

My favourite burger is the Coronary Bypass, and service is usually very prompt for such a laid-back place. Draught selection is not superb, but bottle is for an Atlanta restaurant. Staff is always friendly if you’re willing to be patient and enjoy your time there. Highly recommended for out-of-town travelers if looking for a good burger joint to eat at.

This place is so wonderful I want to type this rating twice. While the selection has too much garbage on it, there are always a few beers that will nicely compliment your meal. And OH MY GOD THE FOOD! In many trips here other important aspects of a good beer bar/restaurant experience are always incredible. The burgers are an absolute knockout, the service, every time, is near perfect(management does a wonderful job training/hiring people) and it’s just a really fun place to sit inside or out and enjoy Atlanta. The "Bar Rules" written on the front of the menu had me laughing so hard i was hysterical. Highly Recommended, unless you’re vegetarian ;)
