| ben4321 (117), Hoboken, New Jersey | | March 7, 2012 This is the 2nd Flying Saucer I’ve visited, and not surprisingly, it is pretty similar to the other one. They had a decent selection of local/area type of beers, much better then the Little Rock one in that regard, but that is more due to the lack of beer in Arkansas then any issue with this restaurant. It seemed like they had a decent set-up, it was fairly crowded but manageable. The staff seemed to be beer clue-less, but I went in expecting that.
| | Caytinator (25), Kaiserslautern, Germany | | March 5, 2012 I can’t believe I’ve been to 5 FS’s! Ugh. That said, this one is pretty good. The location is far enough from downtown to attract a mostly yuppy crowd. The outdoor seating here is tits, perfect to enjoy a lazy weekday evening in "the triangle". I always give them a "10/15" on selection because I have to remember to think of 3 beers I want for them to have 1 in stock. Service OK. | | rivertranced (13), Denver, Colorado | | January 31, 2012 This place is a garbage hole. OK, I didn’t mean that. But it is definitely not a great place to get a beer if that is your primary intention. It’s beauty lies in its centrality and solid beer selection, so it’s a great place to meet friends if you know what you are looking for. My problem with this place is the knowledge of the staff. I figure, if you work in a beer bar you should know something about beer. You don’t need to be a cicerone, but you should know the difference between and ale and a lager, or perhaps something about the role of hops in beer. I’m certain that the bartenders must know a little more, but in the handful of times I’ve been in here I’ve walked out knowing less about beer after speaking with the waitresses. | | SudsMcDuff (112), .....Manchester United.........., Texas | | August 23, 2010 I like this place, the bartender on duty was a really nice guy, he gave me a few samples without me even asking and we talked beer in between serving and offering suggestions to other customers .. typical saucer food, good of course .. the beer tasted great and i had a nice few hours.. up to the standard of the saucer! | vmolina (4), Austin, Texas does not count - explanation | | February 11, 2010 Great place to hangout.. | | Sammer (17), Plano, Texas | | February 7, 2010 Great selection and friendly staff. Single beers or flights can be ordered. Excellent place to visit with friends and look at some beautiful UT chicks. | | jumpjet2k (15), Houston, Texas | | November 16, 2009 The Saucer’s a very fun place to drink. They’ve got pretty much everything available in town and almost always get the new beers right when they show up. Casks show up occasionally, which is nice, and every now and then they’ll Randall a beer. If you’re there, ask for Sam, one of the managers - he’s a stand-up guy and knows his beer. It’s hard to choose between this and the Draughthouse for a favorite Austin beer joint. | | mar (60), Dallas, Texas | | October 24, 2009 Nice outdoorsy patio, nice selection and decently priced. | SSW117 (3), Dallas, Texas does not count - explanation | | April 26, 2009 Great selection, but it can get quite busy at different times depending on the day. Thats not really a complaint though. Food is great, and the place is clean. Couches are a plus, even though there might be a few too many. The patio is the place for me, plenty of room (unless its friday happy hour). The UFO club is fun to help keep track of what I have tried, and help me keep on top of what is new. Check it out. | kurtzj (4), Texas does not count - explanation | | April 24, 2009 My favorite bar in Austin. Expect a crowd (unless you come in the afternoon), but once you get a table the service is usually very attentive. Servers come and go, so if yours isn’t a beerologist just ask one of the bartenders. There are good deals most nights listed on the fire-sale blackboard. The food is good but, just like the beer, should be switched up every once in a while. |
