BgThang (9), Texas does not count - explanation | | May 7, 2012 This place has a great selection if your downtown, but expect a downtown tab as well. Definitely worth checking out | | ben4321 (117), Hoboken, New Jersey | | February 20, 2012 The Austin version has a pretty decent layout. It was a little rainy the day we went to Ginger Man, but it looked there was a nice outdoor area for nice weather. I thought the selection was pretty good. They had a lot of TX breweries, which was nice for me, as that is what I wanted to be trying. It didn’t look like they had anything super rare or special, but they did have a decent selection of local stuff, and some national/international options as well. It wasn’t super crowded when we visited, but the service was only OK. Located near by to our hotel, which was a nice plus. Seems to be one of the best beer spots in the area.
| | Caytinator (25), Kaiserslautern, Germany | | February 6, 2012 I really like the patio out back if the weather is decent, helps you get away from the usually packed interior. This is still my favorite place in Austin to drink beer, mostly because of the selection and the atmosphere. The prices are average. | GODiSSOUTHERN (7), Virginia does not count - explanation | | February 5, 2012 Good atomosphere both inside and outside on the patio. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and accomodating. Also, they have an alright selection of beers outside Texas. The happy hours are decent. Definitely a solid local beer bar. | | rivertranced (13), Denver, Colorado | | January 31, 2012 I definitely enjoy the Gingerman, and it’s central downtown location makes it a very convenient after work joint. Their beer selection is top notch, especially for Texas. I love the atmosphere, especially the beer garden, though I do miss the big trees of the old back yard (though not the birds!). The only downsides of this place are the attitude of the bartenders, some of which embody everything people dislike about beer snobs, and the prices (primarily because they can take you by surprise as they aren’t all printed on the menu). | | GuilTTy (11), Cherry Hill, New Jersey | | July 9, 2011 Best craft beer place in downtown Austin. 50 or so taps but very few bottles (if any). Large selection of very good local craft brews from (512), Live Oak, Saint Arnold’s and Real Ales and a scattering of top notch brews from elsewhere. Practically no food menu but the pretzels are OK. Hangout for the local craft beer geeks so usually some great brew conversation. | | HalfCockedJack (11), | | February 27, 2011 Great Pub! One of the best selections in town (along with the Draught House), and a great staff that is professional and knowledgeable. Great crowd (unlike the Flying Saucer, which gets pretty lousy). The food is weak, when they have not run out of something, what they do have is mediocre. But the beer selection is outstanding and they have a great beer garden. Really comfortable, great place to talk with friends, and to drink beer. They usually have some beer in firkins as well, it is always nice to get a pint of a real ale (especially when it is a Real Ale real ale!. | | slimchill (82), Austin, Texas | | January 30, 2011 For the area, undeniably the best place for a proper pint. A very cozy, old world pub feel. Prices are reasonable. I love that half pints are available. The selection is a bit weak for the number of taps available. Occasionally there will be a nice aged keg available, and there is always a nice cask selection, but a lots of ideal beers are often missing. | | BeerViking (30), Brentford, England | | September 9, 2010 Nice place, comfy, wide range of beers on tap, including locals (blimey, that Pecan Porter was so effing GOOD...) and two cask ales on hand-pump. Didn’t try the food as we’d already dined, but the menu looked intriguing - pub grub with a Texmex twist. The only down-side was that the WiFi signal was too weak where we were sat! | | Phischy (57), California | | August 24, 2010 Damn fine little place and I love their logo. Had as expected a lot of Texas beer, which is what I was looking for. Service was prompt and helpful. They seemed to know what they were talking about and could offer selections when I asked for a catagory.
If I lived in town this would be a must stop! |
