| Bjarte1 (40), , Norway | | May 2, 2012 [ Updated May 3, 2012 ] A nice brewery pub. Decent food and great beers. Both their "U" and Helles are personal favorites. | | madthom8 (52), Twickenham, England | | April 7, 2012 Visited March 2012. Didn’t want to stand up in the corridor and the tap room was full so I ended up in the less atmospheric but still nice dining room. I had a large pork steak with cheese and mushrooms which was very good and filling. While the food and ambience were really good, surprisingly what yet the place down for me was the beer. While the ’U’ was nice, I didn’t care for the thick Weisse Bock and the draught Hell was completely diacetyl and in competition for the worst beer of the trip. Bus 905 from the centre. | | lambic (16), Newton Poppleford, England | | February 13, 2012 This pub probably has one of the best interiors in Bamberg, great ambiance and serving great beer. Good value Bavarian food. At 16.30 each day they also tap a barrel of Ungespundent hefetrub. Well worth the walk (or bus ride) from Bamberg center. | | TEJA (36), Stockholm, Sweden | | December 25, 2011 A visit in the early morning (10 am.) and the lokals were already there. Fast service eaven though we were 15 people and that emptied the cask. They also had other beers on bottle that isn’t wery frequent in Bamberg were most beer is served directly from the cask. Nice and friendly decorated with lots of old fotographs and old stuff on the walls. The place hasn’t been restyled for at least 80 years. | | Braudog (611), Hampton, Virginia | | December 10, 2011 December 2011 - Separated from the center by a good 30-minute walk or 5 minute taxi ride, Mahr’s sits in a more residential area than I’d expected. Forget about trying to get a table to eat here unless you make a reservation. We were relegated to the hallway entrance to down a few of their beers and watch the plates of what looked to be awesome regional food passing us by. We really wanted to eat here, darnit. This was one of the few places on the trip that we were disappointed with the less-than-welcoming staff, too. Clearly they could’ve cared less whether we spent money there or not. Maybe a nicer spot when the weather permits using the garden. (Brewery #569) | | TreinJan (169), Leiden, Netherlands | | December 6, 2011 Very traditional brewery pub/restaurant in the Wunderburg district. They still serve some of the beers from cask without extra CO2 (Bayerischer Anstich). A reasonably big selection, with quite a few seasonals. Food and beers are of good quality. The entrance hallway and the tap room are old and a must see. In front is a seating area, sometimes referred to as the garden, nice in summer (esp. as the Mahr’s Keller on the Stephansberg is no more). | | YULbier (209), Brno, Czech Republic | | November 18, 2011 In my Top 3 of traditionnal Bamberg breweries, along with Schlenkerla and Spezial Brau. Excellent service, in english, thank you. Beautiful interior. The mix of locals, US militaries and foreigners is sure to crank up the ambiance. Beers, especially the tasty unfiltered kellerbier "U" don’t disappoint and make you want to return "just for a quicky". Their food is fresh, flavorful and filling. Lecker! | | ogivlado (242), Zagreb, Croatia | | November 15, 2011 Wooden place that looks (especially first hall) like lower deck of ship from 17th century. Two beers on tap and few bottles. Fast service, ok food and great curry wurst. Only swinging on the waves is missing for full experience, but that also can be arranged if you drink enough. Friendly atmosphere, no music, but interesting (local) people to meet. Very nice and must visit if you’re in Bamberg. | | Cuso (82), Bratislava, Slovak Republic | | August 23, 2011 Nice place. Beers are nice, service friendly. | | Bryne (153), , Norway | | August 9, 2011 I liked this place! The main room with low ceilings, tiled stove and beers served direct from wooden barrels. Many locals hanging around drinking beer by the "Schenke" (Ausschank) Festtags weisse and Weisse Bock in bottles. (Visited July 1st 2011) |
