| Alain (10), , | | January 17, 2012 Very good service, a ordinary kitchen but a very nice one! do check it out! | | Travlr (637), Washington, Washington DC | | September 16, 2011 Classy place with amazing food. Very solid beer selection. Friendly staff and locals. Definitely worth a peek while in Beersel. | | Martinus (70), Nijmegen, Netherlands | | May 23, 2011 [ Updated May 26, 2011 ] Visited in the autumn of 2008. Should go back soon. Brilliant time chatting with the owners. When we were there, it was rather quiet, which allowed us to have nice talks with the owners. They know a thing or two about lambic as their father had his own geuze stekerij in the past, and they know a lot about local history. | | Bierkrug (214), Idar-Oberstein (In East Africa), Germany | | March 8, 2011 Want to escape the big city? Want to leave the crowds? Want to leave the high prices of Brussels? Then this is your place. It has been run by five generations of the same family. It has been open for over 140 years. It is a true mom and pops place. Their beer selection is very good, about 40 bottles were there on the day I visited. The food was nice fresh and well made. Worth the short trip outside the city of Brussels for sure. | | LQBC (12), California | | November 29, 2010 The beers are nice, but the locals are priceless. | | downender (196), Bristol, England | | May 9, 2008 I visited early evening on a Monday, so perhaps unsurprisingly the Oude Pruim was rather quiet. However, this meant I was looked after royally by the staff. My steak with mushrooms was excellent and was washed down with enjoyable beers from Dupont and Girardin. The owner had a long chat with me and the prices were reasonable. Excellent all round. | | JimGent (21), Gent, Belgium | | November 4, 2007 One of my favourites, can’t understand the previous comment about pokie bar that smelt??? It’s always been spotless on my frequent visits, and It’s a classic!! If you like carpets and fake beams, don’t come. The food is traditonlal and good value, try the local Pottekaas (stinky Beersel soft cheese) served on bread with radish and spring onions, perfect with a glass of the Giradin Lambic they have on draught. Now in the 5th geneartion of the same family, the lady of the house is always ready for a pleasent chat. They hold a Pensen (black and white pudding) festival every year. | | voota (91), Melbourne, Australia | | January 9, 2007 Only dropped in here for a couple of beers after a massive walk from Brussels central station. Had a few different Boons which were all fantastic considering I was severely dehydrated. Prices were cheap, beer garden looked nice but it was winter so there was no action out there (or in the campgrounds). The place stank like sweat a little, and perhaps had an worn out pokie bar feel to it. I could imagine it being quite good in the summer though, I’ll be back later in the year. | | mullet (224), Melbourne, Australia | | June 28, 2005 Sensational place. Next to the camping ground, so all the campers come and have a beer. I was there in the evening on a beautifully calm summer evening. Great Girardin Lambik and dirt-cheap Girardin Gueuze, plus I had the best Orval of my life there (quite a claim). Service was a bit slow but the place was packed, and Belgians are never in a hurry anyway. Food was interesting - I had spek met appelen (bacon with stewed apples) served with brown sugar on the side! Sensational, though it might not be so good when the beer garden isn’t open. |
