| Packard (23), Kirkland, Washington | | November 8, 2009 [ Updated November 14, 2009 ] Super selection of taps, but be sure to ask for the off-menu list of rotating specials. Probably another 25 or so, which may include eastern beers from Southern Tier, Dogfish, and Founders, as well as some of our better locals (Walking Man, Boundary Bay). Definitely a yuppified environment, but I prefer this Bellevue location to their stark venue in downtown Seattle. Working in the Midwest a lot makes you appreciate the menu items at Taphouse - kinda hard to get cedar planked salmon at an Ohio beer bar. Join the club and get 10% off during the first 10 days of the month. I like this place because my wife, who doesn’t drink beer (but is otherwise perfect in every way), can have a very nice dinner with wine or scotch while I indulge myself with great beers on tap. | | 22415brewery (19), redmond, Washington | | November 2, 2009 The Taphouse has gotten kind of a bad rap recently with their onslaught of "lifestyle" commercials that feature pretty much everything BUT the beer or food. Service can be iffy/sporadic to downright pretentious depending on the day and time. Either way though they’ve got a ton of taps and a pretty decent happy hour. Even though they advertise over 160 taps, about 10 of them are done up with mass-produced swill and 5-6 will most likely be "out" or "unavailable". Their selection leans heavily toward beers that are more likely to be enjoyed by the general public (as they should) however they’ll also have a generous selection of excellent beers as well. There are not many places in the world where you can sit down and order Pliny The Elder, followed by Dogfish Head 90 minute IPA, followed by Arrogant Bastard, and then wash it down with a Hofbrauhaus Original...along with some cheap happy hour sushi rolls. My best advice is sit at the counter, the bartenders tend to know their stuff, the servers sometimes know their stuff and sometimes do not...however once I ordered a DFH90IPA and they brought me a scotch ale...once told of said error they quickly replaced my mis-pour with the proper one....the waitress was "amazed" that I could tell the difference...hmm. | | fakepurseninja (50), Washington | | September 3, 2008 Smaller than the seattle location. Less atmosphere - too open with views of the kitchen and everyone else. Great beer selection, although they were out of the special seasonals I wanted to try - still got some good drinks out of the sample (which is on the spendy side, $10 for 4- 6oz drinks). Food was okay - nothing to write home about, average value (($12 plate for hot sammies and fries). Service kind of sucked - not knowledgeable about their selections and the appetizers, bread, and meals al came within 2-3 minutes of one another. | | Crit (117), New Westminster, British Columbia | | June 15, 2008 [ Updated May 15, 2009 ] I much prefer the Seattle location. Considering how busy they were, the service was good. They were out of a lot of my choices,. Food was good.
The location sucks, hard to get to, due to traffic snarls, expensive parking.
I doubt I will return to this location. | jlf278 (9), Hoboken, New Jersey does not count - explanation | | April 8, 2008 Rather pleased with the place. Other raters point out that the vast majority of taps are ho-hum widely available beers and not even that highly rated really. The prices are well, pricey, but $9.50 for 4 ~6 oz. beers ain’t too bad compared compared to what i’m used to in manhattan and philly. I was able to easily find 8 beers I was eager to try. Some pretty nice locals, loved the Mac & Jack amber. Ordered some moderately priced sandwiches, tukey club, french dip with cheese both excellent, but their fancier food and appetizers weren’t so great and were overpriced. Service was good too, but not so beercentric as I expected. Would definitely go back when in the area, but they could certainly make better use of their 160 taps. | mnapier (7), Washington does not count - explanation | | March 11, 2008 Stopped in here recently and I have to say about their beer selection, clean your lines!!!.
The issue I had with this place is that beer selection should be what drives someone to this place, yet I feel any first timer might assume that their Yeti is a bit milder than what it is in bottle or on a clean line. I inquired how they tend to service temperatures of their stronger ales versus their mild (sessions, light lagers, etc.). The answer I got was the same cooler and to top things off things off I felt like I was insulting the bartender by asking them to take a bad beer back.
Overall, given the options around the area, there isn’t much, but I think I would rather head into Rock Bottom and have a locally brewed, than question whether its the line or my taste buds that are fried.
Cheers | | leitrim65 (16), Seattle, Washington | | January 31, 2008 Average food coupled with a huge selection of average beers. Upon entering this place and seeing all the taps you would expect to find something amazing, but on the couple of occassions I’ve been here I’ve been deeply disappointed with thie selection. Sfaff is friendly but there are lapses ij service. Overall I’d rather go next door to Rock Bottom. | | jhumphries69 (20), Tyrone, Georgia | | August 28, 2007 The place has a very upscale and trendy feel - which I typically do not like in a pub. The service was good - the bartender was nice and helpful in recommending brews for a sampler. It is nice that they offer custom samplers - pick any 4 draft selections. They had a very wide selection of draft brews, which was a plus. They served food, but I arrived here after dinner so did not eat (thus an N/A rating for food). Overall, it was above average for a beer destination: primarily due to draft selection and decently helpful bartender. | | bitbucket (56), Kirkland, Washington | | August 29, 2006 [ Updated March 31, 2007 ] If you find a better selection of beer on tap in the 425 area code, let me know. Of the 160 tap handles, 140 represent beers that are readily available in your local supermarket, but once you filter through the ho-hum stuff there are some nice selections. As one of my sisters commented about the single men of Alaska, "the odds are good, but the goods are odd." Service was good, the price of happy hour appetizers was pretty decent. Noisy in the bar. | | glkaiser (38), Seattle, Washington | | May 24, 2006 If stuck in Bellevue and want a beer, come here. Not worth seeking out. Has a large selection...but as was said before... nothing that special really for the NW. Expensive as hell. Service is good... food was good. This is more of a happy hour place for professionals than a place for beer nerds. I’ve been here 4 times now, and sent back 3 beers total. Doesn’t surprise me that some taps might not get good turnover. |
