brikelly (3), New Hampshire does not count - explanation | | May 7, 2012 I had never stepped foot in here until this week, when on a whim I checked the place finder for the latest ratings on Boston metro beer stores. Short answer: this place is GREAT! An outstanding selection, very knowledgeable staff and a warm, inviting ambiance. It’s like a treasure trove of great beers (and other things like glasses, wine, hot sauce, merchandise, etc).
I salivated over their vast Belgian selection. I drooled over their west coast selection (best range of AleSmiths I’ve seen anywhere in MA!). To cap it all off, I asked my usual "Got any Cantillon?" question and was told they were raffling off a few of the recently delivered bottles, so I put my name in -- and won one of them! As the old saying goes, the way to a man’s heart is to let him win a Cantillon :)
Summary: great place, great beer, get yourself there ASAP. | kirk36 (1), Peabody, Massachusetts does not count - explanation | | March 25, 2012 I had been dreaming about visiting this store since Christmas. At last, my wife and I drove from Peabody down to Belmont with my 2 year old in tow. Future reference, do not bring a 2 year old into a store with a large percentage of breakables. He was unruly. But the staff was welcoming. As I entered my eyes raced from bottles to cans to bottles from floor to ceiling and wall-to-wall. I was impressed. First impressions are everything. I was greeted by a woman (possibly owner/operator) whom uttered one simple, non-threatening phrase, "i am here to help if you need anything" and she stepped to the side. Awesome. I had a great conversation with her, she was very knowledgeable and approachable. I had a limited budget, but I felt I got value out of the little I could spend. Everything I purchased was unavailable closer to my home. I was excited. My wife said I was bubbly on the ride home. I could have stayed for hours and chatted and looked at beer bottles and cans. They had magazines as well. Awesome! | | beerfest5 (58), Simsbury, Connecticut | | October 23, 2011 A fantastic store in a very nice neighborhood outside of Boston. Described to my wife as "the best neighborhood beer stor ever". Not huge, probably 16-18’ wide by maybe 50’ long, but literally stocked with craft and import beers. Almost immediately was greeted by a very knowledgeable lady who took time to chat with me about beer even before going through her inventory. Defintely worth a visit if you are in the Boston area. We need more stores like this that bring the craft beer industry to the people in such a way that make it welcoming and inviting to try something new. | | Johnsense (33), , | | October 9, 2011 A mecca of beer - Loads of New England craft beers and some tougher to find in New england micro’s (Hoppin Frog, Ballast Point, Alesmith). Staff was very welcoming and they ALL knew their beer. A couple cheeses and some beer-related mustards and hot sauces, but you come here for the beer. Good mix of German, British and Belgian imports and a selection that is large without overwhelming you with the run of the mill imports and pretend-craft beers. Pricier than most stores but you pay for and get quality. Scored Balast Point Sculpin, Maine Zoe, Founders Porter, Alesmith Yulesmith Summer and Speedway and Hoppin Frog Boris (both versions). A solid A | Tiberious_416 (6), Fall River, Massachusetts does not count - explanation | | August 17, 2011 As other reviews have already stated, anyone who enjoys good craft beer anywhere in the metro Boston area should definitely make the journey out to this place to check it out! Run by two friendly and helpful beer experts that are more than happy to help answer your questions. Selection is top notch and very affordable being so close to Boston. | | auerbrau (232), Peace Dale, Rhode Island | | July 5, 2011 I think this will quickly become a must-stop in the Boston area. It’s not the most centrally located, but it’s worth the detour, especially for the singles selection and the prices. I loved their arrangement of cans. They also had a solid selection of local and regional brews I hadn’t seen elsewhere. They definitely focus on the the regional and local stuff, more than imports, which I appreciate. Based on one phone call and following their Twitter, the owners are friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and outgoing in the best way possible. I appreciated that they were open on the 4th of July so that I could score some Notch Session Ale on my way back from vacation. | thicksuds (6), Massachusetts does not count - explanation | | February 4, 2011 Solid store, good selection, had some stuff I had not seen before, fair prices, friendly help, very spacious, pretty much everthing you are looking for is there as far as selection goes. | | mvcramer (16), Lexington, Massachusetts | | November 24, 2010 It’s nice to see nice people launch a successful and excellent Craft beer haven. Excellent selection, fair prices and INCREDIBLY nice and knowledgeable staff (including very friendly owners). This is what we need in Craft... no pretentiousness or snobbery - just good beer from high-quality people. Best of luck, guys! Cheers! |
