| zizzybalubba (68), Elizabeth City, North Carolina | | May 17, 2012 The Deschutes Brewery & Public House is a nice restaurant located in downtown Bend that happens to also serve great beer. The interior hazy a cozy lodge-like feel (or maybe that’s because I was seated next to the fireplace). Service and food were great. Some brewpub exclusives were offered and some of them were exclusive only to the Bend brewpub. Given the selection of brewpub exclusives I chose the sampler tray which was reasonably priced. Certainly one of the best stops in Bend and a top-notch brewpub...The brewery itself is not listed as a separate entry but is worthy of a visit if you want a top notch brewery tour. It is located at 901 SW Simpson Ave. and offers daily tours. | | SamGamgee (182), down the whirlpool, California | | February 18, 2012 Cozy little place compared to the main brewery, that’s for sure. All the main brewery beers plus plenty of pub specialties. All very good stuff across many styles. Imperial pints. Just had beers, and hung out at the bar and service was good. Prices are great and samplers easy. You would be a fool to come to Bend and not come here. | | Matts_Property (27), Vancouver, British Columbia | | November 20, 2011 Great setting, service was good even though it was a busy night we visited. We managed to sample 6 beers for approx $6.50 - can’t argue with that! Shame some of their better beer wasn’t available that night. | | savnac (155), Anchorage, Alaska | | August 10, 2011 Went to the brewery for a tour and the Public House for some beers later that night. The tour at the brewery is pretty cool, a bit boring for a homebrewer but it’s fun to watch the bottling line. Didn’t spend much time there other than that, samplers of their regular offering didn’t get me excited and I had to save my liver for the other breweries on the list for the day. The Public House was great, they had some amazing beer on tap that you don’t see very often, Bender Weiss and some kick ass Sour Cherry beer. Service as good at the bar, didn’t have any food. Both places are worth a visit and you might luck out on some amazing treats at the Public House. | | JoeinEscazú (200), San Jose, Costa Rica | | July 8, 2011 Busy and crowded. We felt a bit cramped at our corner table. Had a few apps and they were fine, nothing remarkable. Best part was trying to choose from all those great beers, from the classics to the seasonals to the experiments. Normally don’t go for samplers, but I had to this time just to make a dent in all the beers I wanted to taste. Came back with a friend later in the evening just to have a couple stouts at the bar, chatted with locals and some Canadians on their way down to Burning Man, and that was a much better experience than the tables. | jckp64 (7), St Louis, Missouri does not count - explanation | | June 25, 2011 Great atmosphere for a brewpub. The food was excellent. Beer selection was very good. Had a couple casks going while
I was there as well. A must visit if your ever in Bend. | | Beerlando (70), Orlando, Florida | | April 11, 2011 Very neat little brewpub. We did not eat here, so I can’t comment on the food, but the pub side was nice. Definitely a little cramped, though. The place could be alot bigger. You can definitely tell that the town has outgrown the pub as there was a long wait for tables, and the bar just simply did not have enough seating for everyone who wanted a drink. All that said, it has the prototypical brewpub feel, nicely finished in rich wood tones, with a glass wall showcasing the brewing equipment. The beers themselves were very good. Though they had the Black Butte XX on, I opted for stuff I hadn’t had before. I went with Cherry Berliner Weiss (stoked to get an unexpected BW in on my trip), Aphrodite, and Grunkles IPA. All were very solid. Friendly (though busy) bar staff, and awesome pricing. If I lived in the area, I’d definitely make this a regular stop. Neat place. Despite the cramped feel, I enjoyed it quite a bit more than the much larger Portland location. | | fcjack1 (12), Washington | | November 27, 2010 Good atmosphere for the beer drinkers. The wait was more than an hour, but it was friday night so understandable. Mac n cheese was very tasty. Would definitely go back if i ever head to that part of Oregon again. | | mattbrews (13), Beaverton, Oregon | | October 11, 2010 great food and even better beer. a nice selection of limited pub only beers. educated staff is also very nice. | | dukefan (51), Dallas, Texas | | September 14, 2010 Not quite certain how this place gets all the great ratings. In several discussions with locals, they didn’t understand either, calling Deschutes "Budweiser" "vanilla" and other terms. Outside a Deschutes Black Butte XXII I tasted, nothing stood out. Despite being in Bend over four days, I never went back after the first visit. And yes, I drank seven different samplers of the "Bond St series" beers. |
