Gulbrandsen (5), Bergen, Norway does not count - explanation | | March 16, 2012 Nice selection, bartenders seem to know their stuff. Except when they talk about the "beer of the month" draft. Laidback and charming interior. Good for small groups of friends to share the evening over some decent beers! | Foffern (9), Bergen, Norway does not count - explanation | | March 4, 2012 A dark and small but two-storey pub. Have a decent selection of beers on tap from Nowegian micro to belgian classics. They also have a "beer of the month"-system which provides a new beer every month on this tap. Decent selection on bottles as well. The staff is helpful and has great knowledge about beer. | leef (1), , Norway does not count - explanation | | October 6, 2011 Cool little place if you know what your drinking. Beer menu out of date but all shelf and tap beer available, bartenders helpful if asked and seem to know what they are doing. Tasty food and great snacks.. when they have them, impressed by the spirit selection and how they can fit so much behind that small bar. Good selection of IPAs, Porter, Belgium, Micro and Ales. | | RuneStumo (47), FØRRESFJORDEN, Norway | | July 1, 2011 29.06.2011. This place was new to me, and Im very happy that we went to this place. They have a very good selection of international beers. We got very good service the staff had very good knowledge about their beers. Visit together with ClubGonzo, Palme, StoreMy and InBreak, and we had a very good time! | | Odland (33), , Norway | | February 7, 2011 Resembles a modern day opium den. The bar is divided in two stories. The cellar - which features a Foosball table is fairly dark and damp. The upstairs is kinda crowded but ok before the drunken students stumbles in. A good selection on tap, in theory, as they are often sold out of most of them. When it comes to bottle you can luck out as it seems that there is no real plan for what they have in the shelves. You might just luck out. | | Palme (43), Bergen, Norway | | November 15, 2010 A well places, cozy little student-bar with a good selection. Most of the time the staff have good time for a beer-talk, and I really like the beer-of-the-month concept they have. Have not tried the food, and probably won’t do do either, but you don’t go to Baran for the food. | | ClubGonzo (30), Bergen, Norway | | July 15, 2010 [ Updated April 26, 2011 ] Baran Cafe is in the center of Bergen, and used to be a hippie-oriented student hangout in the early 2000’s, until a fairly recent makeover has turned it into a more all-round pub. Nevertheless a liberal atmosphere surrounds the place, and both furniture and art point slightly towards the urban "avant garde". Friendly and fairly knowledgeable staff who will engage in a conversation about beer if you are interested. They also serve food, of which I have tried little, but the few things I’ve had there have been decent enough. For Norwegian standards, they have a pretty good selection: 10-13 taps with some international macros and some Norwegian micros, mostly from Haandbryggeriet and Ægir. Baran serves a selection of around 70 types of bottled beer, which is way above your average Norwegian bar. Also, prices are very Norwegian, which is of course to be expected, but nothing outrageous as Baran still caters heavily to the student/young adult segment. The bottle selection is rather sprawled, with no apparent focus areas or system to the beers in stock. However, I did find beers from breweries I’ve never seen other places in Bergen in recent times (such as De Molen and De Dolle) the last time I was there. Beware though; the staff are a bit lazy updating the shelves, so your pleasure of finding something interesting can turn into sudden frustration at times, as they mostly don’t sell the last bottles (I guess they see them as decoration or something). Overall a nice place, somewhat overlooked and definitely a bar with the potential to be a real haven for beer lovers. So far, Henriks and Naboen have a slightly more professional approach to beer and promoting beer culture, but Baran should not be considered far behind. | | gunnar (178), Sandnes, Norway | | November 21, 2009 [ Updated October 17, 2011 ] Stumbled upon this nice bar, when Naboen pub was filled to its limits. Good selection of Norwegian micros on tap, as well as a wide bottle selection makes this a nice addition to Naboen and Henrik, which are located in the same neighbourhood. Knowledgeable bartender. Found Ægir harvest ale on tap. | | garza (73), Oslo (NO), Caracas (VE), Venezuela | | August 16, 2009 Very good selection on bottled and tap beers, norwegian micros and rare and commercial ales. From a small decrepit bar they are now a very nice ambiance pub just in a couple of years. | | Sailor78 (10), , Norway | | June 23, 2009 A large selection of beers, both on tap and bottled (60-80 different beers). Food not very good, but good ambience and the bartender is knowledgeable. Haandbryggeriet on tap! |
