| joeneugs (55), Livermore, California | | December 11, 2011 A little over rated IMO, but a great stop for singles if your in the area. The best grocery store selection I’ve ever seen. An entire row of cooler space with hundreds of bottles some of which you’d never expect to find. Everything there seemed reasonably fresh too as the staff keeps stock rotating. The service was enthusiastic, but the woman there was clueless about beer. She kept telling me she was new and seemed overwhelmed as there were a few others there asking her questions. I helped her out for about 20 minutes with the other customers. It was fun. I’ll be coming back here for singles as all the bottles (even six packs) are priced individually and the prices are good. | madvermin (3), California does not count - explanation | | January 26, 2011 This place blows your average department store out of the water not only in groceries, but beer too. Midnight sun all over the place, including berserker, TREAT, obliterator and more. California beers aplenty, with the notable exception of Russian river, at least the last two times I’ve gone. Tons of Belgian selections, including lots of fantome, and really a fantastic display, with an entire aisle of immaculately kept bottles. Service was fine, one guy I’m guessing makes sure the beer stock is good, but I haven’t gotten to meet him. MYO six pack is rewarded with a 10% off, an added bonus, and their bottles are all fresh it seemed, with nothing dusty, and the ipas pretty new on the shelves. Alesmith ipa was 5.50 there, an awesome deal I thought. Prices in general are good though. Really a fantastic establishment...I would go here just for the food, but the beer is stealing the show. | | robertjm (17), El Cerrito, California | | September 27, 2010 Every time I go there to get food I cruise the beer cooler isle. And every time I’m more and more impressed. It’s always either in immaculate order, or it’s being straightened and restocked. Selection is nicely varied with lots of stuff I haven’t seen at other places, and prices are quite reasonable (Midnight Sun, Elysian Fields, Mikkeller single yeast line, etc.). Food availability is awesome. Not only because it’s a upper scale grocery store, but because they have lots of prepared food to go in a great variety. Pretty large sake section if you’re so inclined, along with a huge wine selection. I talked with the girl that manages the beer isle one and she was quite proud and knowledgeable about the beers she was stocking (NO! She’s not my girlfriend, but a guy should be so lucky :-) ). Only quibble is they close at 8p each day, which makes it hard to hit after evening church on Sundays :-) Do yourself a favor and park in the lot across Heinz Ave. It’s an extra minute to walk to the front door, but the spaces are a LOT bigger than what they have in the garage. | | bhensonb (375), Woodland, California | | August 30, 2010 There’s a lot of beer. I got about 10 I had not rated - lots of Mikkeler - and some new local stuff. Lots of parking. Lots of very good beer. A nice adjunct to Ledgers and Monument. | | asedzie (12), San Francisco, California | | July 28, 2010 Right now this place has the best beer selection in east bay. And believe me, I’ve searched. They have an entire grocery store length aisle devoted to micros. You could get lost among all of these sundry American and foreign craft lovelies. Obviously they have a very savvy buyer as well. Many gems, hard to find special releases, seasonals, etc., etc., etc. When I was there they had the entire line of Mikkeller Yeast-series beers, in addition to quite a few of the hop series beers. They had quite a line of San Diego IPAs and micros, as well - Lots of Alesmith and Lost Abbey. A long list of belgians, even some hard to find numbers. Most highly recommended for any beer hunter in the area. Prices are usually fifty cents to a dollar below premium liquor stores, as well. | | BMan1113VR (279), Los Angeles, California | | July 9, 2010 Wow, this place rocks. Maybe not quite as good as Ledgers, but a damn fine beer selection in a great market. Parking is much easier than the original location, and this beer selection just blows it away. Several Mikkellers and de Molen’s that I didn’t know where in the US. Alesmith, Lost Abbey, Port, ect. All the good stuff. Local rarities. Some odd ball Fantome’s (BBB White?!), and Jolly Pumpkin Weizen Bam (hadn’t seen that before). Really a top notch place to buy beer. |
