Great old pub with a lot of history, part of the Nicholsons chain so a kittke corporate. Large bar area with seating, good food but busy 5pm -- 7pm and weekends. 9 beers on handpump + continental lagers. Food is ok but smallish portions, best deals at lunchtime

Wonderfully atmospheric pub with an emphasis on a Victorian style saloon. It is well decked out with traditional soft furnishings that complement the high ceiling, stained glass windows and aged wooden decor. The painted images of First World War soldiers above the bar points to a later remodeling but it clearly has plenty of period charm. Drinking and dining are both popular and the room at the back is for diners. At the bar cask is given as much room as lager pumps and there are nine pumps (with a selection of 6 available during my visit), Naturally you pay a little more here than your ordinary boozer.

An old WW1 themed Victorian style Nicholsons pub in the heart of Birmingham. It’s been very tastefully refurbished, but thankfully retains much of its original charm. It’s rather large inside and Is generally full most evenings as its popular with the office crowd for after work drinks. There are up to 8 hand pulls. They are not always that exciting but there are usually one or two non-mainstream beers that I have not tried. This part of Birmingham is spoilt for choice when it comes to great bars, but its still worth looking up the Old C’s.

Named after some First World War British soldiers this lovely large, old pub is one of my favourites in Birmingham. A bit isolated from the other ’better pubs’ in the city, but well worth the walk. Part of the Michell’s and Butler’s empire and if it was situated in London would have a Nicholson’s sign outside. Always a good selection of Real Ales, plus fizzy stuff if you must, the staff are often rushed off their feet, but still manage to look happy enough. The choice always seems different from the last visit, so not sure if they have any regular beers on, or just random guest beers. The food speciallity is Sausages, different styles and types, not cheap, but with some strange and interesting filling combinations. Olde Worlde in decor, in keeping with its name, WW1 type of stuff, etc. The toilets are upstairs and a backroom area is more for eating than drinking, although when full you can grab a seat where ever you see one.

We have visited this pub many times as it is very handy for Snow Hill Station. Large rangy pub with several rooms, as a Nicholson’s pub the beer always has some interest, particularly as the have around 7 had pumps going at any one time. Although it gets full of suits you can generally find somewhere to sit. The bar tends to get a bit over busy to park yourself there. They are a bit rapid in chucking you out at 11pm though, particularly if you are trying to while some time away for the last train. Overall a pretty decent pub.

Rather too crowded during Friday and Saturday evenings but the selection of beers is reliable and prices are reasonable for the city centre.

Always a good selection of seasonal beers, with Purity almost always represented. Very reliable pub.

Visited here today 03.11.11, and it is one of those pubs that the name and the history behind that name made me want to go there. Its a Nicholsons pub, so a decent choice of beers on offer with Mordue Newcastle Coffee Porter, Quartz Extra Blonde a couple of new ones for me. Smart surroundings, good service, beer in good nick. I am sure that there are better pubs around this area (I know there are) but for a very reliable pub close to Snow Hill station this ticks most of the boxes for me.
