Walked in a whim and was pleasantly surprised. They have a great range of beers, ended up buying more than i thought i would. The service was very friendly and knowledgable.

I don’t normally bother with place ratings, but these guys really deserve one. It’s a smallish shop, and at any one time the range is not huge. It rotates, however, so there is always something new. A constant variety of Aussie and US craft beers, as well as UK ales, Germans, Belgians and other Euro brews, with a focus on locals (beer and cider) would be enough to secure a great rating from me. However, that is far from all. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable - you can tell they are actually beer nuts themselves, not just doing a job. They always remember who I am, even to the extent that they know my tastes in beer, and will give recommendations from whatever new stuff they have in. Free extras like glassware are an added bonus too. A top spot, and definitely where I buy most of my beer.

Just keeps getting better and better. The arrival of Dan Murphys in neighbouring Katoomba has encouraged Robert and Scott to take this place to a new level in terms of its beer range. It was always good; now it’s exceptional by NSW standards. R&S love their beer and are always happy to share their knowledge. A very quick guide to the range on my most recent visit (May 2012): Nogne, Mikkeller, Green Flash, Bear Republic, Brewdog, a few hard-to-get Australians, some obscure Kiwis, plenty of English ales and a terrific range of one-offs from the above and others. There were at least 100 beers there I hadn’t tried and I’ve been through a few over the years. Original rate: Good country NSW bottle shops are few and far between. This is the best in the popular Blue Mountains tourism region two hours west of Sydney. This place has kept pace as the benchmark has risen in Sydney in recent years. I was delighted on a recent visit to find several Dieu de Ciels, Brewdogs and Hitachinos, as well as a good range of local micros, Belgians and more common Brits. The prices were fair by Sydney standards and there was a very good selection of Central West NSW wines. It’s unfortunate that the name seems to have changed recently to the clunky "Down Under Cellars", presumably to harvest some of the tourist trade that floods this town. Having recently moved to this region, I can see I’ll be doing most of my shopping here.
