Small place in a basement on Newbury. More wine than beer. Much smaller range than Charles Street LIquors but they did have a couple of things that Charles Street didn’t (can’t remember what now). However, as we were staying very close to Charles Street liquors, I only went here once so i don’t know what their rotation is like. Not cheap but this is Boston, and an expensive part of Boston at that.

Basement location in the middle of busy Newbury Street. Mostly wine here as well with a ratio of maybe 85-15 in favor of wine. Several coolers in the back with a few smaller shelves as well. Selection definitely seemed on the higher side to me with Cascade, some nice Belgians, North Coast Old Raspy XIII, Jolly Pumpkin, etc. I was happy to find a bottle of Cazeau Saison and be on my way. Hard parking of course for the location and prices again a little on the higher side, but not really for downtown Boston.

Located in a busy lively street of Boston with many restaurants and shopping. This little basement store is hard to spot and you can forget about parking during busy hours. The store is small so it is missing a lot of stuff that can be found in larger Boston stores but the limited selection is interesting. For instance I picked up some Cascade Kriek and Ithaca Brute. They had some Bruery, Lost Abbey, Jolly Pumpkins and a decent selection of classic Belgians (Rulles, De Dolle, etc.). Most beer are kept in two double-door fridge in the back so your beer should be in good shape. Prices are decent for the area, cheaper than the larger Charles Street Liquors not far from there. Again, just like most places (bars/stores) in this area this is not worth making a big detour but if you have a hotel downtown you must hit this store. The selection was limited but I picked-up some stuff there (such as Ithaca Brute) that were not at Charles Street Liquors. The 11pm closing time is also very convenient.

Decent selection of locals and available beers. Prices are reasonable, especially given the area, and the staff is very friendly and quite knowledeable

Great service, convenient & cute location, but somewhat limited as far as craft beer selection. In fact that was my only negative was that the craft beer selection was quite limited and omitted several very popular breweries (such as Founder’s), among others. Employees did not seem knowledgeable about craft beer, did not know about several popular names, and politely informed me that if I don’t see it then they don’t carry it. Prices were reasonable given the area. For wine and spirits it wasn’t too bad either. I just wish they had more craft beer.

Nice little store on Newbury Street. Convenient to the Hynes T stop and Newbury Comics. Helpful staff is always present - but try and give you whatever limited room you may want for browsing. They don’t let you break-up 6-packs which is unfortunate as they usually have a couple of brews that aren’t available elsewhere, but don’t necessarily warrant the volume. That said, they have a quality selection of local, US and European beers. High prices are as expected for the area.

Nice store, mostly focused on wine but with a good selection of beer as well. Some local micros, and some West Coast beers too (Stone, Anderson Valley, Ballast Point, The Bruery to name a few). A good, but not great, selection, but a good place to find some good beer if you’re in the Back Bay area.

What Bauer has going for it most is the area around it, which is a great for dining and shopping and simply walking around. I liked Newberry street a lot, and you can’t beat a dinner at Clio nearby. Unfortunately the store has a much better wine selection than a beer selection, and while I realize that space is limited, there’s more emphasis here on the everyday than the unique. There were a few things worthwhile, including Ten Fidy and several others of the Oskar series. I didn’t see any of the rare beers others on the site here reference, such as Speedway. Given the choice, I’d recommend Charles Street Liquors. On the plus side, the people were friendly, and I ended up with a few bottles of wine to take home.

A small place, but with quite a bit of selection packed in, numerous shelfs of rare imports and hand-craft specialties. Very helpful staff, and decent prices make it a nice little place for your specialty needs.
