| j12601 (45), Poughkeepsie, New York | | November 23, 2009 For the amount of bottles in the shop quite a good selection hitting all sorts of good stuff including a large amount of things I never see in NY. Staff seemed reserved and didn’t pressure or bother, instead keeping back and waiting patiently to be helpful. I’ll certainly be back, but hopefully with the car next time instead of the backpack on a walking tour of the city. | | lithy (93), Knoxville, Tennessee | | June 30, 2009 Easy to reach on the metro, great selection, a bit pricy from what I might be used to but the city is much bigger. Staff was helpful. | BleacherBum (9), Blowing Rock, North Carolina does not count - explanation | | May 16, 2009 Very nice. I visit every time I come to Boston. How convenient is it that the UPS store is right next door so I can ship my beers home? Selection is great with plenty of great selections I can’t find in NC: Lost Abbey/Port/Alesmith/Southern Tier...etc. Great and hard to get Belgians as well. Staff is very courteous, knowledgable and helpful. Discounts taboot? And they help ya pack up your box. What a great store! | | PJClarke (13), London, England | | April 11, 2009 Fantastic selection. Great staff too, could answer every question I threw at him and gave some really genuine opinions of the beers. Buy 6 get get 10% off is a bit of a dream too eh? | | thornecb (14), Marblehead, Massachusetts | | March 26, 2009 [ Updated July 8, 2009 ] Charles Street is one of my regular visits in Boston. Easy to get to by foot or Red line. Staff acknowledges your presence and occasionally asks you to move aside for them to work, but will answer questions when asked. Good selection of European, Asian and American micro-bombers - there is always a rare find in every section. The Belgian selection has decreased of late, but is still fine. Not allowed to break up six packs which eliminates trying some new beers. A little higher in price. Web site sucks. | | fromred2green (15), , Ohio | | March 24, 2009 Nice, convenient location, right across the street from the T. Has a decent selection of singles, and an average to poor selection of sixers. The employees were very helpful and courteous, and the prices weren’t too bad. | | ajm (160), Los Angeles, California | | February 13, 2009 Can’t believe I haven’t rated this place before - makes me a little sick. This is the best place to buy bottles in Boston, and very possibly in the state (aside from Julio). A great swath of regional representation: Smutty, Southampton, Allagash, Weyerbacher, Two Brothers, an awesome Belgian list, and the last time I was there, a good selection of Founders. Really great addition to Charles St., which is a nice historical enclave. One of my fave places to buy because it is always a great surprise. | | elihapa (62), Honolulu, California | | October 1, 2008 Stopped by here on my last visit to Boston. It was a bitch to find (due to Boston’s disorienting assortment of one way streets), but I’m glad I did. Walked straight to the back room, which was tastefully dedicated entirely to beer. They had six-packs as well as singles, which was what I was looking for. I picked up beers from Founders, Avery, Stone, Alesmith, Bear Republic, Green Flash, De Dolle, Delirium, and Fullers. I know I can’t speak for all over America, but this is simply the best selection I’ve ever seen. I found myself passing up on beers that I have been trying to locate for months simply because I had reached max capacity. Stop by here if you get a chance. | | Philip (64), Illinois | | September 3, 2008 Of the places I visited in the Boston area (Bauer, Wine Emporium, and two other venues not on this site), I found this to be the best. Needless to say, it wasn’t the beer store of Sam’s Wine in Chicago or the Friar Tuck chains of Illinois. But their selection was well thought, and I recognize that space is limited in the city. I appreciated the inventory on the website, although somewhat dated. I managed to come home with Ten Fidy, some Berkshires, Port 2nd, Olfrabrikin (sp?) Porter, Alesmith Yulesmith, and I wavered over Serpent’s Stout. Not a bad hall really, although prices were high in comparison to what I’m used to, although that was true for most of Boston. Their wine selection was decent, with a few good Rhone wines to satisfy. People were very friendly the best service from the stores I visited. |
