4 reviews for Penguin Pizza
| chriso (161), London, England | | October 8, 2009 I liked this place. The general vibe is student oriented but a fair few locals in evidence too. Quite small and packed at 9pm on a Wednesday night but we managed to get a table after a few minutes. Music was too loud for my taste. Some decent stuff on tap but nothing new for me. Extensive bottle list - I didn’t count how many beers were on it but it was way more than the 30 stated here. More like 250 I’d say, although nothing particularly obscure from the US. Bottles from Mikkeller, Nogne O, Haandbryggeriet, Norrebro and a couple of Italian micros were more surprising (but not new ones for me). Mug club membership requirement reduced - I think someone at the bar said it is now 150. Service good, pizzas good, prices reasonable. I’d go back. | | JeremyScott (11), Taunton, Massachusetts | | April 4, 2009 I really enjoyed my stop into Penguin Pizza for lunch. The tap list is quality over quantity, but there extensive bottle list really rounds out the selection. The food was well above average, and the bartender was very nice and helpful. I would recommend this place when visiting the MFA. | stev31h (2), , Massachusetts does not count - explanation | | October 28, 2008 Eat, Drink, and Be Merry. The Penguin delivers, flat out. The have a mug club, where you have to drink nearly 300 different beers on a list, and once you do, you get a mug. The actual place itself has a great feel to it, a mix of college students, locals, and 9-5’ers. The menu is fantastic, pizza, pasta, salads, and sandwiches. The thing with the Penguin is, they do the small things right. There are board games and cards if you’d like to relax and drink, and theres an HDTV with sports on. | ecwooten (4), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts does not count - explanation | | August 8, 2008 Basically no crap on tap. Generally several very good choices, some of which are less commonly seen around Boston (like Stone and other west coasters). Good representation of locally brewed beers, though hardly as exhaustive as you’d like to see. Beers always fresh and clean.
Food is pizza oriented, and quite tasty. Not the best you are ever going to encounter, but well above average, especially considering the co-location of good beers.
Staff friendly, attentive and efficient. Neighborhood bar vibe abounds. |
