| brystmar (10), Brooklyn, New York | | January 25, 2012 Hands down the best value for craft beer in Brooklyn, possibly in all of NYC. Despite its proximity to Overpriced-Because-It’s-Ironic--burg’s main drag, Mugs remains the most reasonably-priced bar in the region. About half of their ~25 beers on draft are only $4.50 for a 20oz pour!
Bottle list is impressive, but typically outdated. It’s common for me to go through 2-3 choices before finding something they actually have in stock. What IS in stock, though, is typically outstanding. Last time I was there, I shared a 1988 Lee’s Harvest Ale with my friend for the unbelievable price of $15. Did I mention this place was a bargain?
To top things off, this bar ranks among the least trendy or pretentious in the area without being run-down or trashy. It’s open and spacious, rarely crowded (even at midnight on a Saturday in the summer), and very relaxed compared to its surroundings. All of this makes Mugs one of my favorite spots in the city. | | BMan1113VR (279), Los Angeles, California | | January 9, 2012 Near the subway. Stopped by and met up with ChairMissing. Sort of an old school, slightly upscale sports bar feel. Big TVs, full bar. Didn’t try the food. Tap selection was decent, but nothing too special. Not a bad place if you are in the area, but not a place to seek out. | | LilBeerDoctor (185), East Setauket, New York | | December 4, 2011 A good stop in Brooklyn. This is a small but cozy bar with a grungier, but friendly crowd. They have a pretty long tap list, most of which is NY locals, but a couple other stuff too. Their events bring in some of the rarer beers, but I haven’t been to one yet. They do have an extensive bottle list also. I only ordered food once, as it is on the pricy side, and it was good (chipotle wings). Beer prices are pretty good for NYC. Overall, a good place to stop in for a pint if in Brooklyn, although I wouldn’t expect any crazy offerings. | ChairMissing (7), Brooklyn, New York does not count - explanation | | August 31, 2011 I really do love this place more than the score might suggest. It’s my local spot and they have good beers at great prices. Relatively hipster free given the neighborhood. They just some the most horrendous food (even for bar fare) and I’ve had more than one experience with OLD IPAs on tap. Still go there all the time though. | | ben4321 (117), Hoboken, New Jersey | | August 1, 2011 [ Updated September 5, 2011 ] I swung in here for a couple of afternoon beers. This place has a good solid selection, and worked pretty well for a quick stop-in beer venue. Not necessarily a destination, but a good place if in the area. | | rosenbergh (275), Helsinki, Finland | | July 28, 2011 30 taps. 1 cask. Nice place near Brooklyn Brewery. Definitely worth a visit or two. | | theisti (273), Leawood, Kansas | | January 14, 2011 Early evening on a Sunday, good crowd going - standing room only, but not overly crowded. Nice tap list, good service, overall nice neighborhood bar vibe. The Flower Power I had was super fresh. Fun place, seemed to have decent prices. | | Leighton (226), London, England | | November 2, 2010 Great Brooklyn watering hole. There is a wide selection of craft beers here, mostly American. The bar itself is pretty large. There are two rooms, with some seating near the bar as well as tables with waitperson service. The value here is pretty good. Overall there’s a great, neighborhood vibe to Mugs. One of the top spots in the borough. | | Nalu (19), Washington | | August 12, 2010 Fantastic craft brew selection - right up my alley! Good crowd, plenty of space/seating, good service and a knowledgeable bar staff. The best pub on Bedford! | | ketchepillar (18), Albuquerque, New Mexico | | June 16, 2010 I wish I had heard earlier about the beer event they had this past weekend. Luckily much of the stuff was still around. On tap CCB Cuban Espresso Maduro, 06 Double Bastard, Kuhnehn Extraneous, Winter Wonder, Some other pale, KBS, and numerous other special brews. Plus, my 10oz pour of Extraneous was only $5!!! |
