| Gerbeer (10), vancouver, British Columbia | | May 16, 2012 Located on a Harry Potter like alley. Very cosy for a single or couple. Beyond that little room. Good beer selection. Unique - worth a visit | | SaintMatty (128), Uppsala, Sweden | | May 13, 2012 A cosy place, which is normally quite busy, but not uncomfortably so. It is quite difficult to find, which helps to prevent it from becoming even popular with the copious tourists in Brugge. A decent beer range and friendly service. | | AMcD (10), , | | May 2, 2012 Great bar hidden down a narrow alley. Has it’s own house triple which is a must try. Can get crowded so may take a few attempts to get in. | | Forsberg_dk (15), , Denmark | | April 17, 2012 A decent place with lots of turists and fair selection in generel. Service is ok but not great, worth a visit but not a priority imo. | | Russo (28), Campinas, Brazil | | April 6, 2012 I have been there for the first time and was closed during the 2009’s winter and now that I have a opportunity to get there again was very disappointed. I arrive and the bar was full and the guy was any kinda to ask me to sit with another couple and wait for a table. The place is tiny, the staff is not friendly and I won’t back there.
God luck for who wanna try! | | BlackHaddock (175), , England | | March 28, 2012 This place is everything the rest have said and more!
The problem is, it is now in every guide book, in every tongue, so locals are staying away somewhat. There is no real non-tourist time in Brugges, so it is always full of people like you and me (and others clutching guide books, maps and rain macs).
Do not let this put you off though, you must find it when in Brugges because it so special. Even when it is full of Japanesse, Brits and Americans, the atmostphere is still one of calm and peacefulness, everyone just soaks it up and talks in whispers,as if in church.
The draught beers are always in fine form and the bottle selection, although a little pricey has some interesting choices.
It is one of my favorite bars in Brugges.
The reason my food score is low, the choice is very small, cheese etc. There is nothing wrong with the food, it is just limited, after all it is for the beer I go there.
| | jfb (45), , Germany | | March 20, 2012 There’s usually a table or two free on the first floor, not very spacious up there though. Lots of English spoken here, but the feeling is never touristy. The tiny alley leading to the entrance, the ridiculously narrow stairs, the old-style decor always make for an atmospheric and pleasant hour or two, even though the house beer is a little overrated if you ask me. | | BattRD_Gent (12), Heule, Belgium | | February 20, 2012 One of my favorite bars in Bruges. The Garre is a fantastic beer. The location is both hidden and picturesque. Excellente sensation !!! | | mike1977ok (26), , Netherlands | | February 6, 2012 Difficult to find as the street entrance is basically like a shop doorway. Nice old building with crooked wooden floors and old stone. Be prepared: this is a small place in high demand so getting in and finding a seat will be difficult (there is no standing room).
They do their best with service considering how busy it is. Their house Tripel is fantastic! |
