| BlackHaddock (175), , England | | April 2, 2012 My wife and I decided to find this place after reading about it on Beer Advocate: really pleased we did. Its opening times could be kinder, but it suits the owner I suppose. The owner is in fact a Swiss chap who has also lived in the UK before settling in Brussels, so multi-tongued and interested in fine beers.
It is firstly a beer shop, secondly a tasting room with a couple of other tables outside (only three inside): no beers on tap. We burst in and stared at the shelves of beers and glasses on show, some are also in the fridges for drinking there and then: the choices in the fridges change as and when they feel like doing so. They have a lot of the larger 75 cl bottles and cover all Belgian beer styles. I asked for a Rulles Christmas to be chilled while we had a couple of other 75 cl beers already in his fridge.
Had a good chat in-between customers with both the owner and his wife, very knowledgeable and keen, been there 15 years and happy. Brussels city centre was heaving during our stay; the Christmas Market being on this was an oasis of calm. Carried out 6 big bottles and had a lovely 2 hours of drinking and selecting my bottles for home consumption.
We were given some white and black pudding as we drank, a Christmas treat, we were told: nice touch. Cheap it isn’t, good it is!
| climberbob (6), Virginia does not count - explanation | | January 18, 2012 Small place with limited but a good selection. You can have a beer and snacks in the shop which is nice. I had a beer and a selection of cheese while reading their copy of "Good beer guide to Belgium". The service is great though - he wrapped everything in bubble wrap for the trip home - even the Cantillon bottles I had purchased earlier from the brewery. | | shoulderbroken (60), Tokyo, Japan | | December 20, 2011 Fantastic beer shop and fantastic beer shop keeper. Pierre is very friendly and always happy to chat. Wish I could spend more money here but can only buy as much as I can carry. Have to seek this place out as you probably wouldn’t stumble upon it. Always good with recommending unusual beers to try. Maybe the other beer shops have more bottles, but this shop has more heart and soul. | origais (4), , Belgium does not count - explanation | | November 29, 2011 Best point there are not the beers, but the shop keepers! | | Rastacouere (581), Montréal, Quebec | | November 3, 2011 Just a few minutes walk East of Bier Tempel, Delices et Caprices is far less touristy and more attaching, its owners giving the greatest care to customer service and feeling extremely passionate. Their selection is hand-picked throughout the country. It’s smaller than nearby Beer Planet and Bier Tempel, but contains plenty that the other two won’t have, the owners travelling to breweries to buy the rare and unusual. Extremely friendly and you can try anything on the small terrace they’ve established on the street.
| | ultimatepoche (35), Lille, France | | September 1, 2011 A very small shop, near Grand Place with very friendly owners, not a very large selection, but only splendid things. it’s a bit expensive , but it’s worth a try. Pierre ( the owner ) is a very passionate guy, and knows his products. A place to go at least one time ... | | Mathieu87 (59), Ganshoren, Belgium | | July 29, 2011 Not a place I would recommand going to. Very small, pricy, but very friendly owners... Not special... | | 77ships (21), Antwerpen, Belgium | | July 9, 2011 I found this to be a very weird place, apparently a beerstore where you can also drink what you buy, there were plenty of table & although they seemed pretty outgoing, it would be hard to call the atmosphere inviting but that might have been because the place was empty either way I didn’t see anything rare or all that interesting plus the fact that there are 2 other, better beer stores nearby 5 minutes within walking didn’t really help, prices didn’t seem to be that bad, didn’t stay very long & cannot really imagine myself coming back | | thewolf (138), Kolding, Denmark | | July 5, 2011 A very cozy little shop in a fairly dirty-looking side street. But when they were open, the street had outside seating and inside was a fine, small selection of good and rare bottles to be bought home or enjoyed on site. Good, friendly service as well. |
