| visionthing (114), Oslo, Norway | | April 19, 2012 Nice interior, but very crowded and a quite limited selection of beers. A tourist trap in a central location, but there is plenty of better places just a short walk from here. It’s also quite expensive. (2011-03-18) | | Arve_Christian (68), Oslo, Norway | | April 19, 2012 A great view in La Grand Place and the sun is shining-but there are plentiful of much better beer places | | emartell (15), Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico | | April 2, 2012 Bar en plena Grand Place.
| | ChrisSchill (10), , Belgium | | November 3, 2011 A wonderful place, I love it. It’s a shame it’s expensive. Nice for a first date with a beautiful beer loving girl. If you don’t find a beer loving girl I’m available, I’m a beer loving man . | | Antoine (14), Dortmund, Germany | | November 2, 2011 very touristic place. nice to sit outside on the terasse right on the grand place of brussels. but often crowded and waiters seemed to be stressed... | | eisnoton (17), Athens, Greece | | September 13, 2011 Full of tourists. Nice decorations. | | altonbrownd (146), Brussels, Belgium | | August 2, 2011 One of the many beautiful bars on Grand Place (tourist central) with high prices and the standard Belgian beers on tap. To me not worthy of RateBeer, but if you are on the Place on a warm day. A nice place from which to people watch. | | sebletitje (198), Enghien, Belgium | | July 11, 2011 A great historical building to say the least, and used to be the guild house for the bakers back in the late XVII.
Beside the historical aspect, eye candy architecture and décor inside, the bar is not much but a tourist trap with overly expensive typical lagers. Selection wise, it deserves a one, mostly Inbev products, too expensive for the quality,a nd a rather poor selection that again fits the touristy format.
What else? this building is also the HQ address for Inbev.
I would not drink there, maybe, just maybe to appreciate the building itself and its history but not for the beer. If you do, go there when it’s early and empty of tourists. | | Rune (234), Tromsø, Norway | | June 13, 2011 21 bottles and five draught beers to choose from. Good food. Friendly service. Great view. Old fashioned wooden interior (visited 6th May). | | brugmanneke (19), , Germany | | February 19, 2011 Ok, this is a place that you only go to for a nice view of the Grand Place square.
The atmosphere and decoration of the place are indeed very nice, although it is of course swarmed with tourists.
I only go there once every two years maximum, when there is a flower carpet on Grand Place and I manage to get a table at the windows upstairs on the first floor. The beer selection is very poor (by Brussels standards) and horribly overpriced. Draught beers are Jupiler, Stella, Leffe, Blanche de Hoegaarden and sweetened Kriek Extra Belle Vue. Among the bottled beers, the widely available Chimay, Orval and Duvel are the best. Nothing you could not get elsewhere at almost half the price.
Staff is friendly and professional (though always in a hurry). I have not tried any food, so I cannot comment on that.
If you are primarily looking for good beers to try, not for the view, go somewhere else! |
