| gramity (22), Edmonton, Alberta | | January 27, 2012 Stopped in for one of the quickest pub visits I have had in a long time. Was rushing to make the Red Arrow bus to Edmonton and poked my head in for a quick bottle of BrewDog 5 AM Saint. Bottle selection was great - tap selection not so much.
Bartender was fast an efficient and provided me the correct glassware and the bottle to pour myself (which I like).
I’ll be looking forward to getting back to this place when I am in Calgary next. I wish we had a counterpart in Edmonton. | | Sammy (408), Toronto, Ontario | | May 13, 2011 Upcoming place with 20 something taps, nearly half with craft. They claim 350 bottles, and at least a dozen I haven’t tried though only a handful I would. Very nice, clean, with two patios, a small-medium bar, great staff and I am told above average food. Music was not too too loud so that the four of us could talk comfortably, wifi, and everyone happy. In busy area, though we lucked out with parking space a few yards away (warning: parking tickets are the highest in Canada). One of the hot spots designated to get Big Rock one-offs on tap. No cask, but that’s typical for Alberta. | | willace (10), Calgary, Alberta | | October 14, 2010 This Bar has without question the most beer available in a restaurant in Cowtown. The price is a liittle high, but overall a great place to go for a beer. | | rosenbergh (275), Helsinki, Finland | | August 5, 2010 Lot of taps 20+, mostly Lager and Ale. Quite limited bottle selection (Alley Kat and Unibroue). Small place with very loud music being Old English Pub. I guess Buzzard Breath Ale is something you can’t get anywhere else. I couldn’t see the name Bottlescrew Bill’s outside the Pub, only Buzzard. | | Maltybones (17), Calgary, Alberta | | April 20, 2010 Good selection of beers, but hasn’t quite kept up with some of the newer beer-centric establishments in the city in terms of breadth of quality offerings. Decent local micro selection but the rest of Canada a little under-represented. Staff are friendly, but there are times where you get different beers than you asked for. Several different areas to throw a few back. For those that like a little authenticity, the best of which being the homey prototypical dank pub area adjacent to the bar. | TheDoctor (4), Calgary, Alberta does not count - explanation | | August 21, 2009 [ Updated November 18, 2009 ] Ambiance is pretty decent, but nothing much to speak of. Service all the times I’ve been has been a mixed bag. Bartenders and servers are friendly but often somewhat inefficient and will take a while to get to you and won’t keep much of an eye on you, even if it’s not busy at all. They have a lot of bottles, the taps are just the usual and can be found pretty much in any pub in Calgary, excepting the Buzzard Breath Ale, which is the house beer and is pretty good. | | Cavie (80), Fort Worth, Texas | | July 18, 2009 So I had a pretty crappy trip. I came during Stampede week, which I assume was a mistake. I had never been to Calgary and I came to Bottlescrew’s solely on the ratings on this site. They had a few things on tap that I hadn’t had; being from Texas this wasn’t hard to come by. But when I asked if I could see their full list of bottled selection, they balked. They said everything was in storage and they wouldn’t even go back to look at it for me. I would have paid a ton for what they had, but with the shitty service I got and their complete reluctance to even help me out, I am detested by this place. I understand the need to make profit, but if you are to be known as a craft bar then you need to stand by those values. | | Powertrip (11), Calgary, Alberta | | October 9, 2008 Smallest of place but packed with beers. Prides itself on its # of beers available. 80+ to choose from last time I saw. Decent Scotch selection as well.
Fun to go for a game of darts or just some brews with a couple of boys. Been visiting the place off and on for over 15 years. | | patricks110 (28), Alberta | | June 24, 2008 [ Updated February 15, 2012 ] Food is okay. The Around the World in 80 Beersclub is a great idea. They have one of the largest beer lists in Calgary- many Canadian micros and hard to find European brews. The food is above average which makes up for the bad atmosphere and often poor service. Overall, this is a great place for a few beers. | | TimE (189), Tokyo, Japan | | December 23, 2007 Standard pub with lots of micro and import bottles. Good place to go if you are from out of town. Food is decent. I like sitting outside on a warm summer evening. Not really aiming for the beer geek crowd, more just the crowd that wants to try a different beer. |
