| Farees (23), Edmonton, Alberta | | May 9, 2012 Ambiance is fantastic, a rustic beer hall below a beautiful restaurant above. Service is so apathetic you want to prescribe something for the wait staff. Beer is almost all German, so if you are looking for variety you may be disappointed. I tried a flight of the house brands and could only finish the Dunkel. Food is great and reasonably priced for the area. I have been twice for good food and atmosphere, service and beer are lacking. | SebaYYC (3), , does not count - explanation | | May 1, 2012 I’m confused here...beer-hall or restaurant? Beer on tap is good but I’m not sure about the food selection. Service is OK but I’m not big on the ambiance as the upstairs seems like any regular restaurant and downstairs seems too dark. | nemeab (5), Alberta does not count - explanation | | April 26, 2012 I have been a few times now and both times what stands out the most is the layout and feel of the space.
The food was very good the first time but not as consistent the second and I also found that I was struggling to find a beer that wasn’t completely mainstream.
Go for the ambiance & schntzel; I hope they bring in some more funky beers. | orhay (9), , does not count - explanation | | April 21, 2012 Great place. Beer was cold and tasty. | | BeerFanatic999 (10), Cochrane, Alberta | | April 17, 2012 Wurst is a wonderful place to go with your buds and have a brew. | | thehead92 (12), Calgary, Alberta | | March 28, 2012 Great concept, fun place.... | | TimE (189), Tokyo, Japan | | December 24, 2011 First thing I want to say, is that I love this place. It is def one of my new favorite watering holes in Calgary. However, the low score is because I am rating this place from the view of a beer geek, not as an everyday Joe. I went here last night with a group of friends and we had a total blast drinking Ayinger Marzen and some other tastey German brews. We shared a 2L Boot and took lots of funny pics, then the Ommpha band came over and everyone at our table got on top of the table and danced and sung together. It was such a blast and the perfect place to go out with a group of friends for a good time. High prices means very few people under 25. The basement is the pub and is set up like a German beer hall with some booths, but lots of picnic tables to share with others. About 10 beers on tap, but menu isnt updated and so some beers they dont carry anymore and others, such as Aying Marzen, arent on tap. That was frustrating to not know what they have. I dont know why they just dont have a chalk board with latest beers, or something. Service was average. Food was OUTSTANDING. Hard to find German food this tastey anywhere. The quality really surprised me, as did the price. Probably the most expensive place to eat and drink in Calgary. For a good night out expect to pay $60-70 for food and beer. If I was to judge this place as a regular Joe, it would easily get over 80pts, but as a beer geek looking for serious beer, I dont think this place stands out in any way. I will be back with friends that is foresure. | | Powertrip (11), Calgary, Alberta | | September 22, 2011 The setting and design of Wurst is unique, refreshing and quite inviting. The service was very acceptable. We had a kind waiter whom went out of his way to answer all questions we had. My entree was the bison ribs. Although the meat was tasty and tender, the dish was absolutely drowned in sauce - and I woke up in the middle the night having a sodium attack. I have been to Germany more than a dozen times, so I know they love to drown their food in sauces - so I appreciate the authenticity - however that still doesn’t mean I could even come close to finishing my food. Prices were high for the quality. | | hamfisted (28), Calgary, Alberta | | July 12, 2011 Two trips, two very different experiences. Lunch shortly after opening was good. Food is excellent, but beer selection was limited (they were just re-stocking - we watched as the new kegs were rolled in). On a Sunday afternoon - bitterly disappointing. We got there at 3, only to find out the kitchen was closed. We should have walked, as one of us was HUNGRY. Beer selection was better, but the $28 cheese plate was a rip off. | | goatboy (42), Vancouver, British Columbia | | June 30, 2011 [ Updated August 2, 2011 ] This is a new Bavarian restaurant in town, lots of fun and worth trying out, they have casual dining upstairs and a Bar/ Beer Hall down stairs with a giant rotisserie full of veal and chicken slowly cooking away (Yum !) I found Ayinger Dopplbock & La Trapp tripel on tap along with a standard selection of local and German beer, Good service & Good food but small portions, they have beer stein lockers, $250.00 per year (Ouch !) the price seems a little steep. they should have beer lockers like at the Hofbrauhaus in Munich and charge a more realistic fee for us non millionaires, that said I would defiantly go back as this place has good food and great potential. |
