StueyD (5), Heacham, King’s Lynn, England does not count - explanation | | May 24, 2012 Visited the Victoria Road shop. Good selection of beers and wines, although, as the guy in the shop admitted, it had been hit hard by the beer festival crowd! Knowledgeable and friendly, a bit pricy, but as expected for the specialist stock. | | jackl (30), London, England | | May 20, 2012 Located right on Mill Road, Bacchanalia is quite easy to find. The selection features options from the states, Belgium, and Germany, along with a few local brews. The belgian stuff had a few nice options, and I was all too happy to pick up a few interesting sours. The staff was helpful, prices were reasonable. Worth a stop, though don’t expect to find anything too crazy. | | BlackHaddock (175), , England | | April 2, 2012 Drove past this beer shop while looking for our hotel: couldn’t find the hotel so returned to here. While the owner opened up ‘Goggle’ for me my eyes scanned the shelves for likely beers.
Three main collections:
British; mainly local brews.
German; plenty of Octoberfests and rarer brews (to me anyway).
Belgian; mostly well known stuff (I’m a regular Belgium visitor).
Bought three new German bottles and found my hotel, the guy was helpful; his beer selection fine; glad I found him before the hotel!
| weaselkenievil (8), , England does not count - explanation | | July 19, 2011 There was only one guy working there when I went in, which was fine as it was empty. Bloody good bloke. Left me to it until I started conversation and then was happy to talk beer. Gave me his honest opinion and didn’t say everything was brilliant. Steered me away from a few. Good beer selection, some my novice ass had never seen before. Good cask selction too. Would definitely visit again and if you’re in the area I would certainly pop in. | | mym (14), London, England | | February 16, 2011 One of the best off licences I’ve ever been in. How I wish we had one of these in North London. Knowledgable staff, wide range of stock, and draught ales. | | rosenbergh (275), Helsinki, Finland | | January 10, 2011 Small beer (and wine) store. Decent selection. It’s located midway between Cambridge Blue and Live & Let Live. OK service. | tobydarling (2), , England does not count - explanation | | September 19, 2010 Fantasic off licence. As well as a great range of wines and whiskeys up front, it’s all the beer at the back that’s impressive. Usually 4 draught beers on tap, a draught cider, and an amazing range of bottles from all over, including Mikkeller, Brew Dog, Nogne, Amager, de Molen, Stone, Dogfishhead ... And loads of English bottled beer too. Hugely knowledgeable and helpful staff. And just round the corner from the Live and Let Live. | Kieran_H (4), Cambridge/ Manchester, England does not count - explanation | | March 18, 2010 Excellent beer shop, tucked away a little bit out of town but well worth the walk. The guy in there spent a long time with me explaining about certain beers and helping me make a more informed decision than would otherwise have been possible with my limited knowledge. Got some great beers, visit regularly now to check on the ever changing stock. Just great. | | jnelson_22 (10), Heerlen, Netherlands | | December 23, 2009 This place has the best selection of any shop i’ve been in in the UK. It’s a bit of a drive for me, but always worth the trip. The staff is very knowledgeable about everything on the shelves, and are always happy to help. I don’t know how he does it, but it seems like the guy has drank everything in the shop and has a photographic memory of each individual experience. A good variety of all things Belgian, German and British, and I was happy to see some American stuff to! I was even suprised by seeing them armed with Tactical Nuclear Penguins on my last trip! An excellent little shop, I never walk away unsatisfied. | | Fin (243), Merton, Oxfordshire, England, England | | October 5, 2009 Have visited here frequently including twice in the last 3-4 months. I love this place, it has a cracking selection of beers and usually some great stuff from the likes of Struisse, Mikkeller and Nogne amongst others. There is also a very decent German beer selection and to the right hand side when you enter the beer part of the shop this area is dedicated to UK beers with Durham, Dark Star and others usually well represented. I think the only negative is that in my opinion it is a tad pricey, I accept that many of these beers are likely to have cost quite a bit of effort to get them to the UK, and I appluad this little treasure trove of a shop for geting them to a UK market, but I mention this because I’d noticed that the price has increased noticably since my last visit which was only in June. Also bit sad that what looks like a decent Perry and Cider selection look a little forgotten sat on the floor well below the Mikkellers, Amagers and Struisses of this world. Still I understand that this is likely to be owing to size limitations. Btw staff are also very friendly and helpful, two of which reside on this site I understand. |
