78 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 Brugmansia (257) Jylland, Denmark | April 23, 2013 Visited january 2013, last pub on our great Cambridge Pub Crawl :-) Very cosy place, friendly and serviceminded staff. The beers were served in good condition. The place was a bit crowded, but that was expectet on a saturday nigth. Being in Cambridge, this place is for sure worth visiting.. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 16/20 jmgreenuk (89) The Hague, Netherlands | November 5, 2012 A spacious real ale bar with a wooden interior, just outside the city centre. Up to eight hand pulled real ales, plus a few fizzy lagers, ciders and a decent bottled Belgian selection. Good service and value. It’s worth the walk out here to visit this place and the other three top bars in the area. | 82 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 16/20 lada66 (131) Savonlinna, Finland | October 1, 2012 A nice wooden pub with good real ales. My choice was Nethergate Umbel Ale 3,8% (30.6.2010). | 80 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 9/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 jackl (206) London, England | May 20, 2012 Live and Let Live is a great little pub located close to the Cambridge Blue off Mill Road. The ambiance is lovely - the bar’s small and wooden, the decor tired. Despite that, the atmosphere is relaxed and jovial (sleeping dogs under tables, locals having plenty of banter etc). When I visited there were 6 beers on cask, including 3 options from Oakham. The beers were well kept, the prices good. Overall, while the beer selection is inferior to the Cambridge Blue, the great atmosphere of this pub makes up for it. I highly recommend a visit. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 16/20 Martinus (116) Nijmegen, Netherlands | October 9, 2011 Nice place to go to when visiting Cambridge. Great atmosphere, seems to be the favourite of the locals. Good selection, including quite many Belgian beers (much to the enjoyment of the friend I was visiting) and some nice cask ales. | 88 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 Benjii (63) Edinburgh, Scotland | June 8, 2011 A great locals bar in Cambridge. A necessary addition to any pub crawl. A great selection of cask ale and also a nice belgian bottle list, including a few geuzes : ) Highly recommended! | 96 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 15/15 FOOD 1/10 VALUE 9/10 OVERALL 19/20 tobydarling (2) , England | September 19, 2010 Best pub in Cambridge
5 ever changing guest ales, including 1 that’ll be 3.5-4%, a dark one (could be anything from a 3.3% mild to a 9% stout). There’s usually an offering from Oakham. Tring Jack O Legs and Nethergate’s Umble are the house regulars. Landlord is fastidious about line cleaning
There’s a guest draught Belgian, currently Kwak, and Leffe. 40+ Belgian bottles gets it a mention in the Good Beer Guide to Belguim
Real cider from Cassel’s, and Weston’s under gas.
50+ rums, except when there’s a rum festival on when that goes up to 70+.
10+ bourbons.
No fruit machine, music or tv. | 80 AMBIANCE 4/5 SERVICE 10/10 SELECTION 11/15 FOOD N/A VALUE 7/10 OVERALL 15/20 oh6gdx (155) Vasa, Finland | August 10, 2010 Lovely pub with a talkative landlord, who atleast this day just would let you order until 1430 when they are supposed to close for a while. Great selection of cask ales and all serviced in very good condition. | 88 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 8/10 SELECTION 13/15 FOOD 7/10 VALUE 8/10 OVERALL 18/20 aj_ml (4) , Norway | May 26, 2010 One of Cambridge’s gems. Always a good selection of ales, decent food and the possibility of a nice chat with the locals. | 82 AMBIANCE 5/5 SERVICE 9/10 SELECTION 12/15 FOOD N/A VALUE N/A OVERALL 15/20 Fin (368) Merton, Oxfordshire, England, England | October 5, 2009 This was the third of the Mill Road vicinity pubs that we visited this time whilst in the city. I’ve been here before but not as frequently as its two near neighbours the Cambridge Blue and the KIngston Arms. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in here, the beer was in excellent order and the barman very helpful and friendly. It was fair buzzing with chatter and was nice to see a little back street pub doing so well. An excellent Belgian beer selection offered those seeking something different from the 8 or so cask ales on handpump something to go at. This has now risen ahead of the Kingston for me and pushes the Cambridge Blue hard for the best pub in this city. |
