justinhhp87 (6), Florida does not count - explanation | | January 13, 2012 a solid selection for a small town beer shop; some very rare beers from time to time; small tap selection but still pretty decent; | | JCB (120), Durham, North Carolina | | August 21, 2011 Been popping in here occasionally for the last 2-3 years and have always found plenty to savor, in terms of selection, service, and ambience. Tiny shop manages to have a very good selection overall, with a decent Belgian line and good range of U.S. micros (not to mention locals). Service is always a treat, with Jason and others very knowledgeable and helpful. And ever since they’ve put in a few taps, things are even better. | | emacgee (57), Carrboro, North Carolina | | July 7, 2011 Stop in here pretty frequently and pick up a thing or two. They usually have one or two things I haven’t had and usually get whats new. They have more English stuff and German Lagers than most places do and a good singles selection. Plus the ability to try a thing or two on tap is pretty sweet. | | planbee (35), North Carolina | | June 29, 2011 Ambiance - Cozy and wooden, right in the middle of the neat little town that is Carrboro. Good atmosphere. Service - Always friendly for the most part, and knowledgeable to a fault. Selection - Somewhat small but powerful. The best thing about this place is that there’s always new and different stuff coming in, going away, and coming back. They have lots of stuff that the other shops around here don’t carry, and lots of cans. The "staff picks" area is always a good place to see the more interesting or new beers. Value - Slightly higher than average prices, especially on the fancier bombers, but Chapel Hill/Carrboro are just that way. No gouging. Overall - I get really excited about going to this place. You just never know what you’re going to find. AND they have Sprecher’s Root Beer, super bonus. | | DukeBrewDevil (36), Chapel Hill, North Carolina | | May 28, 2010 Beautiful beer store in downtown Carrboro. It’s well-lit and well organized. They normally have a beer or two on tap you can drink while you shop. Excellent Belgian selection, TONS of craft bottles. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. It’s not cheap, but not overly expensive for craft beer. Good selection of beer t-shirts, glasses, and other goodies. After Sam’s, this is the best place I’ve seen in the Triangle. | frozen_glass (4), Wisconsin does not count - explanation | | May 21, 2010 [ Updated January 25, 2011 ] Great, down-to-earth place; features beers on tap and free tastings every Thursday (can’t say enough good things about the tastings). Wide variety of beers, and friendly, knowledgeable staff (on re-rate: super friendly now that we are regulars!). Regularly updated staff picks can point you in the right direction if you’re looking to try something new. Prices are great when comparison shopping for beers of the same quality, and they have regular sales that can keep the beer flowing without breaking the bank. As a bonus, there is plenty of parking thanks to a public lot across the street behind the store. Best place in the area, hands down. | | GT2 (196), Washington DC | | April 13, 2010 The first true bottle shop in the CH area. Selection is pretty good, a little expensive, and sometimes you can even get some beers on tap. There is a glassware shelf, but why buy any when you get to keep the glasses on pint nights at Tylers next door? Those working have a fair knowledge about beer but in no way super impressive. | | TURDFERGUSON (117), Carrboro, North Carolina | | April 23, 2009 A good shop in the heart of downtown Carrboro, adjacent to Tyler’s restaurant and taproom. Small space with a lot of brew mainly specializing in American craft beer, but also has some Belgians, Germans, and other worldly beers. Pretty decent selection of sodas, glassware, t-shirts, hats, etc. As Jamie mentioned, they also have a few taps in store where you can try some select kegs. Terrapin Substance Abuse is there right now which was a little surprising given its perceived rarity. A nice place and its across the street from my house. He shoots, he scores! | | Magjayran (22), Durham, North Carolina | | September 22, 2008 A small, well-run shop that focuses pretty much exclusively on micros and better imports. They have a couple of taps that allow you to drink good stuff while you shop. The guy working seemed to know his stuff about the selection and was very friendly. The prices are steep but so is everything else in that town. Very small but packed with good quality stuff. |
