JPDurden24 (4), Chandler, Arizona does not count - explanation | | April 8, 2012 Who ever thought of drinking awesome beer at a grocery store? Well this is the place. Friday nights are hopping with beer class linking a different style or brewery and brining the craft beer community together. James and John are knowledgeable behind the bar, and always a great selection on draft, plus one of the best bottle selections around on the beer wall. You will enjoy having a great brew..Cheers! | | Terminus (233), Las Cruces, New Mexico | | February 29, 2012 Wow this place is insane!!!!! I have never been to a whole foods that has a bar along the side of the place with 32 taps! this is killer! great selection and the beer manager there is really friendly. This could be the best place in Phoenix for beer. The bottle selection is solid and always rotating stock so you get fresh stuff. I have to go back to this place! | | Swillbur (24), Arizona | | January 25, 2012 I have been going to Whole Foods Chandler to get alot of my beer for some time now. When i first heard of this place i had to check it out. Right when you hit the beer aisle you are in wow. There has to be over 1000 different kind of beers on the wall. After seeing this you walk over to the watering hole and find 31 CRAFT beers on tap! At first the drafts were a bit high priced but now the prices are pretty good. All the beers are just 4 dollars on Sat through the summer from 4pm to close and i hope they keep that special after the summer is over! You can walk around the store and there are various places to eat and all of them are pretty good. All in all it’s one of my go to spots!
| snotrocket (7), does not count - explanation | | December 4, 2011 Who’d ever think you’d have a beer bar with 30+tap handles inside a grocery store?!?! The selection here puts it in the top 5 beer bars in the PHX area. Great happy hour prices ($4 a pint all day saturday!), large cooler selection and James is very knowledgeable behind the bar. They do get some nice limited releases but you usually have to join their beer class that night to get the first crack at them. Service is good when James is behind the bar but since it is a store, there are times when no one is around servicing the bar. Also being that it is in a grocery store, it isn’t that intimate of a place. Overall, I’m very happy that the Watering Hole is thriving. | parrotheadkrm (1), Gilbert, Arizona does not count - explanation | | November 26, 2011 One of my favorite places in Arizona to grab a beer! James is awesome, knowledgable, and friendly. The only knocks I have on the place, can get very tight on Friday and Sat night, and sometimes, if you are there early, its a little difficult to find someone to help you. Aside from that, pretty much a perfect place to have a beer! | | DiarmaidBHK (307), Pennsylvania | | October 23, 2011 Once you get past the idea that there’s a bar in a grocery store which I think is pretty cool you realize what an awesome place this is. They have over 30 drafts of local and regional crafts with lots of unusual offerings. The bartender is a real beer geek and his enthusiasm is infectious. The store itself has the longest cooler I’ve ever seen full of craft beer including a nice section of bombers. These are the kinds of experiences which make craft beer fun. | | CaraCurtis (10), | | September 3, 2011 This place is amazing. I have always loved coming here. Once I started coming to the Watering Hole, my experiences were that more enjoyable. The people here are great! The only set back is at times they struggle to find someone to pour when there is not a set person for this area of the store. This is not too much of a biggie. Also, I really like coming here over other places because the atmosphere is just so much different. To mention a few of the great beers I have had here... Dogfish 120, Stone Chocolate Cherry Stout, Dogfish Hellhound on my Ale. Deschutes Stoic, and basically anything rare that comes into AZ, James gets. | | kylefleeger (13), Tempe, Arizona | | August 31, 2011 [ Updated September 5, 2011 ] This Whole Foods has emerged as one of the premier places in Arizona to drink craft beer. In large part this is because the selection is excellent and that’s thanks to the beer buyer James. James hosts beer classes every friday night that have included the rarest Stone, Dogfish, Oskar Blues, Great Divide, Deschutes, etc. James’ knowledge of beer exceeds anyone I have ever had serve me beer in Arizona and it’s not particularly close. Recently, I had Dogfish head 120, Stone Chocolate Cherry Stout, Dogfish Hell Hound on my Ale, and Alesmith Speedway Stout just to name a few. If it’s rare beer and it comes to Arizona there is a nearly perfect chance James will get bottles in his store. It’s a grocery store so the ambiance is a little weird and although you can’t order at the bar... Whole foods has many hot food stations that you are more than welcome to bring into the bar area. Saturday’s are an incredible value. Nothing is ever more than 6$ and on Saturdays the whole menu is 4$ all day. That’s some serious value when we are talking about this high quality of beer. Great Job James! Happy I live so close. | | illinismitty (275), Nashville, Tennessee | | June 26, 2011 For a grocery store, the selection is simply outstanding. On top of that, they have a bar with over 30 good beers on tap, and good prices to boot. I found a lot of west coast and regional goodness that I cant get in TN, such as Deschutes, Grand Teton, Odells, Firestone Walker, Marin, etc. My only complaint is that the beer area is running out of space, so it’s a little disorganized because there are random boxes of beers on the floor around the cooler area. Worth a stop if you are within 30 miles or so. Glad I stopped in. | | Ibrew2or3 (248), Phoenix, Arizona | | April 14, 2011 This is one of the bigger and better ones I’ve been to with great meat and deli selection and with the typical amazing cheese selection. Wow I see a cool salad bar, sea food salad bar and a cooked veggie bar. Damn! As far as beer they have a nice array of Western US brews, local brews and international (even a few Russian and Romanian offerings). Wow, I also see a wine tasting bar and an array of 29 beers on tap at another bar. Great place with solid selection. I was surprised to see the prices on some beer about the same as they are in Florida. |
