Originally reviewed: 9/24/10. Another place on the top of my list when in town for business. Didn’t try the food when I went, but I was here for beer anyways. All the food that people were eating around me looked decent though. The bar area is a pretty good size. Lots of tables around. TVs all around too for various sports, etc. There was a good number of college-aged crowd there that night. Pretty loud. The service was pretty weak. The bar wasn’t crazy busy, but I still was neglected even though about 3 people working the bar kept walking by. Ah well. Not here to make friends. Another disappointing thing, was that their website named a couple of beers from Olde Hickory that I came here specifically for, and they had neither. Boo. Their beer menu was also much out of date. I ordered 3 times before I made a ’hit’ and guessed something they actually had. Started off with a Founders Breakfast Stout which is amazing on tap. Lots of Founders represented, D-R, Sweetwater, some Belgian taps, Stone, Rogue, Allagash, etc. I had read on the forums that this was THE place to go in Charlotte for beer. Not so much for me.

Stopped by a couple of nights during a recent Ballantyne business trip. Large open space in the middle of a strip mall parking lot. Plenty of tvs all showing different sporting events. We somehow ended up in front of a girls high school basketball game, but plenty of other screens to watch. Interior is rather cold and industrial with 50+ so taps lined up behind the bar. Service was attentive at the bar, and somewhat disjointed at the tables, as some of my companions received incorrect beers. That said, selection was very good and specializes in local, state and regional offerings. Got both the Sexual Chocolate and Baltic Porter on tap among others. For food, we only got onion rings, but they were received well by our group. Prices were kept in the $6-8 range, but portion sizes were greatly affected by abv/rarity. Glassware was rather industrial and could be improved. Overall happy with the experience - not knowing the area, can’t say if there is anything else in the area that compares.

This is the best bar I’ve ever been to. I’ve seen bars with more taps but usually more than half of it are useless common beers you can find the grocery store. This bar is loaded with only amazing craft beers, best brews made in the US. They do special beer meals featuring a brewery. Last I went to was for Founder’s Brewing and it was the best night of food and drink in my life. Mr. Duckworth the owner actually described each dish to us and talked to everyone attending the meal all night. Food is well above average bar food and services are super friendly. Amazing!

Outstanding beer and bottle selection, plenty of NC beers on tap, Founders on tap and had Devil Dancer in bottles. Big open space not a great character although the beer was what I was there for. The food seemed good, my wife was happy with her Philly Cheesteak!! If I come back to Charlotte I’ll definitely give this place a visit again!

My first Visit to a NC beer bar. Plastic strip mall ambiance. Horrific service with no beer knowledge. Decent selection, like the emphasis on local, not perfect beers. Food absolutely terrible Beers are small pours for big $$$ This place might rank on the regional scene, but nationally, internationally it ranks as a wannabe.

Seriously how is this place not rated higher. In a strip mall with ample parking. Walked up and grabbed a bar stool at 9pm on a Saturday. Not crowded. Nice big screen TV’s above the bar. 60 taps loaded with all quality beer. No BMC or even PBR. Expedition Sexual Chocolate, other rare beers for $5 a glass. Cool bartenders. Nice menu. Had the grille chicken because I am on some stupid diet, but the rest of the items looked good. Every town needs a place like this. Thanks to Spencer for the great recommendation.

Here is the ultimate sports bar. I’ve passed it a few times, disregarding it as another boring southern watering hold. When I walked in it looked like I expected, predictable decor with tons of flat screen TV’s all over the place, but it is clean and well laid-out. However, some cool indie rock and proper old-school alternative coming through the speakers gave it a slightly hipper vibe and the focus on beer sealed the deal. The tap list apparently rotates frequently with a great selection including some rarer stuff. I had the Stone/Green Flash/Pizza Port HWY 78 and a pint of Skull Coast Dead Man’s Porter the next day. Service was friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. We just had a salad, so I can’t really comment on the food. If I were in Charlotte and was going to the bar to watch the game, this is the absolute must stop. Actually, I’d just stop in anyway to see what’s new on tap.

They will be moving soon to a larger location..basically in the same shopping center. This will allow for more wonderful beers. What I love about this place is the awesome specials. They have a great beer selection too...although they refuse to put OMB on tap which disappoints me...maybe the new location will. Staff is very knowledgeable about beer.
