| thornecb (43), Marblehead, Massachusetts | | May 22, 2012 Visited this location during a recent visit to Charlotte. A bit out of a hike to get to from the Queen City, but near to the University and the Raceway. Flying Saucer atmosphere inside with a strip mall patio outside. Very busy even on a Wed night. Service was very attentive and the server was able to identify the newest tapped beers as well as relative rarities or new offerings. Selection was broad - with many styles represented and regional specialities. Food was typical pub fare - would make the trip for the food alone. Prices were typical for the area. All in all, I’d visit again if nearby, but would not take the trek from downtown again. | | Onenote81 (72), Winston-Salem, North Carolina | | May 2, 2012 Visited: 9/24/10. My last stop in Charlotte on my way back home. Stopped here for dinner. This was the last "must see" on my list. This place was packed out around dinner time. I found one spot at the bar. Great service. Was acknowledged right away even though they were crazy busy. I started out with a SN Tumbler on tap. Their selection was pretty great. Many of their offerings were ones that you would see most anywhere around, they did carry some very special brews like: Avery Maharaja, DFH Bitch’s Brew and Saison Du Buff. The prices on those were high for sure, but it was cool that they had them. They had Founders Nemesis in bottle form as well as about 50 other bottled beers. I ordered a smoked salmon sandwich on rye. Very good, but the fries that came with it were pretty average. Finished off the night with a DFH Bitch’s Brew. Very good. The atmosphere was pretty cool in there. There was a sort of back room with some billiard tables and such. Cool place. This was second only to Mac’s - Steele Creek. I’d love to come back sometime. | | Mijahraus (12), Orlando, Florida | | February 24, 2012 Impressive tap selection. Liked that they offered a variety of North Carolina beers as well as an NC flight. Food was good but not great. Will be sure to make another visit the next time I am in Charlotte. | Kamatzke (2), Charlotte, North Carolina does not count - explanation | | January 19, 2012 Great staff that take the time to learn your name. Awesome selection, they manage to be the first in town with seasonals and special releases. The food is always good. Prices are good for a bar, yeah I can find them for less but I won’t be getting the same atmosphere. Gets pretty crowded on weekends late night. Best time to come is a weekday afternoons and really enjoy the brews. | | TURDFERGUSON (117), Carrboro, North Carolina | | November 27, 2011 Visited here when I was working for Duck Rabbit four years ago. Pretty similar setup to the Raleigh location (and I imagine all locations, good amount of pretty good taps, probably at least 10 local/NC beers. I would never seek this place out but its better than your average bar in charlotte. | | needaloan (11), Illinois | | July 23, 2011 A great bar chain and the food was excellent. I had the German platter with two different sausages, slaw, and potatoe salad. probably the best I have had and I have been to Germany. Amazing beer selection, but maybe too many. I had so may types and samples I wasn’t able to keep track. The local Big Boss brands were great. My freinds had the philly cheesesteak and said it was good, not the best but above avergae for a bar. The bartender was very knowledable about beer but the waitresses were not.The prices seemed reasonable for most brews and on the cheaper side for a few of them.
| | bth122 (11), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania | | October 19, 2010 Great selection. Many beers on tap. offers samples at decent price. Bar is huge. Great all-around atmosphere. Bartenders were semi-knowledgeable. | | kassner (53), Wexford, Pennsylvania | | April 16, 2010 The service at the Flying saucer was fine, but those who go there from Charlotte Downtown should know the local cabbies are going to rob them blind. $60 bucks and the guy on the way back went out of his way to make it $40 one way which I refused to pay.
Run a Flying Saucer shuttle and I bet it would be a success. | | czh (10), Charlotte, | | December 9, 2009 Nice place. Great taps-as far as quantity. A bit too much of a "chain" atmosphere for my taste. If I lived in this part of charlotte, I’d probably frequent more due to selection, but not worth a long trip unless the buzz is they’ve got something really special (like when they had Sexual Chocolate last year.) | | hargettfamily (14), charlotte, North Carolina | | June 12, 2009 nice selection, but overhyped. this is notthe best place in town. if you live in this part of charlotte, then it is probably the best thing close to you. if you do not, then there are places with better selections |
