| bmerz (61), New York | | May 4, 2012 This is a great beer spot and apparently a famous BBQ joint. It’s part open air, really big, a bit of sports bar, definitely southern (to a Northern eye). All types of people here and it works. The BBQ brisket (all that I had unfortunately) deserved accolades...no where in NYC is nearly as good IMO. The onion rings were so so though the price was reasonable...no foul. The bartender was not super knowledgable but friendly and professional. While they had a lot of beer to choose from...a very respectable list of local and most American it wasn’t enough of a reason to go. But you should go. The BBQ and place are well worth it. I almost went out of my way to go back on my way out of town...should’ve. | | thornecb (43), Marblehead, Massachusetts | | December 6, 2011 Mac’s is a quick cab ride from downtown Charlotte with a more roadhouse than city feel inside. Lots of round 4-seater bar-level tables with stools which makes it difficult for large groups, but is manageable. Service is attentive, but not particularly helpful on beer selection - which is vast for the area. Lots of taps and bottles to choose from. The taps include both local, geographically diverse US craft and Belgians. Food is very good bbq - brisket is what they are famous for and it was very good. Cheese grits were also a hit. Overall, pretty good value considering the diversity of options. I try and visit Mac’s each time I come to Charlotte. | | msante79 (253), Mount Prospect, Illinois | | April 19, 2011 This may be the coolest biker place ever. Awesome BBQ. Especially that vinegar sauce. Had the pulled pork platter which for $10 was unbelievably good. Had Event Horizon on tap which was amazing. Bartender was cool as shit. Blackhawks and White Sox on tv in Charlotte? This was like heaven. This may not be on the level beer wise as Duckworth’s, but for a biker BBQ joint it really did out do my expectations. Charlotte is lucky to have this place. | | NachlamSie (357), Tennessee | | November 8, 2010 Man this place was packed to the gills during our lunchtime visit. We were somehow able to snag two seats at the bar and once there received good service. The beer selection is vast, much more expansive than the 10 taps claimed on this page. I’d say we’re talking over 20 taps, easily. Some good stuff was on too, a couple OMB taps along with Espresso Yeti, Stone Smoked Porter, etc. The barbecue is pretty competent. We got the sample plate along with another order of pulled pork. Everything is good, with the ironic exception of the brisket about which they sing the praises. Of course, the brisket is prepared Texas style. As we all know, traditional Carolina style BBQ is the best. This is a fun place with lots of good beer. Definitely one of the best tap lists in the city. | tallboy2 (8), Charlotte, North Carolina does not count - explanation | | June 17, 2010 Usually crowded, so go in prepared for that. Beer list is better than expected for such an establishment, though be prepared to pay restaurant prices. Service can be hit or miss depending on how busy they are. Food is awesome! My favorite BBQ in Charlotte. Check out their new Sandy Porter Rd location for more and better beer. | | czh (10), Charlotte, | | December 9, 2009 If you’re looking for an awesome meal (bbq) and would like to have some good beers to go with it, this is the place. Most restaurants like this are only serving bud and miller. | | HoosBrews (10), North Carolina | | July 25, 2009 Mac’s has a great selection of beers. Had a Piraat, Mothership Wit, and a Lagunitis IPA. Unfortunately, I had to ask for a glass (the waitress seemed to think I was crazy to want to drink a Piraat out of a glass). Food was great. Everything I ate was incredibly good. Service was decent, alittle slow, but they were busy.
The biggest disappointments were the ultra smokey environment (which I suppose will change in a few months), and horribly uncomfortable bar stools. Overall, an interesting place for a great beer selection. Most people were drinking tall-boy Miller Lite’s, so I’m a little confused by the great selection. | | hargettfamily (14), charlotte, North Carolina | | June 12, 2009
if you are for a meal, the food is incredible. the beer list is strong, but small. the beers are a little more than expected given the very casual atmosphere | | BeerBelcher (134), Columbus, Ohio | | April 25, 2009 [ Updated May 5, 2009 ] North Carolina is just not synonymous with great craft beer culture. Not a ton of brewers, brewpubs, or great beer spots. However, there is a ton of casual places with great BBQ. Mac’s has really good BBQ combined with a lengthy beer list, but this is not a place I would say excels on that hard-to-define aspect of "beer culture." Still, I enjoyed my visit, and for the area, I believe it to be one of the better spots in the area.
The bottle list is long. The BBQ was quite good (accompanied by two great sauces - neither of which was anything like Bullseye or KC Masterpiece, and that’s a good thing). However our server was pretty vacuous (at least on the topic of beer), and I had to ask for a glass with each beer I ordered. Still, prices were reasonable, food was delicious, and the location was quite convenient. I’d happily spend another evening here.
I read something about this being a "biker bar," but this seemed like a nice family place to me. | | mistersinalin (24), St. Paul, Minnesota | | April 22, 2009 Awesome time with friends! Great beers, tons of grub, and a very attentive server. I loved the ambiance -- they played metal and hockey was on in the South. |
