tunneler (4), Charlottesville, Virginia does not count - explanation | | September 23, 2009 Large bottle selection, about as good as you can get in VA, with some bottles chilled and ready to drink on-premises (beware the somewhat-too-high ’capping fee’ though). Food is delicious but a bit overpriced and there are portion size issues with some dishes, though the majority are fine. Service is usually a bit slow though - they are a victim of their own success here - but it is friendly enough and they make it easy to split checks. A dozen rotating taps though 4 are reserved for macros. The bartenders are usually great and will give you samples. | | maniac (90), Richmond, Virginia | | January 21, 2009 This is a beer store, with a bar. Its actually a cool spot to drop by for a beer while browsing the selections. The stuff on tap is usually tasty (and can be stuff that’s hard to find on tap). A small capping fee if you want to drink a few bottles while you’re there as well. Fairly reasonable prices, a large bottle selection and friendly staff. | | Butters (150), Virginia | | December 11, 2008 Definitely my favorite place Ive come across in Charlottesville thus far. Very nice selection of bottle beers and a tap line-up that is nothing to thumb your nose at. They must have some connections cause they had a few of the rarer beer that ive seen {brooklyn flemish gold and southern tier reserves} The staff is a young hip crowd but they sure do appreciate their beers. One guy, I believe his name was Josh?, even taught a beer class seminar over at UVA. I love the fact that I can get my wife to go out here in the am so she can drink coffee and I can have a brew. Very awesome concept. | | Magjayran (22), Durham, North Carolina | | May 24, 2008 Is this a bar with a beer store in it? Is it a beer store with a bar? I vote for the latter. Decent selection of good beers from around the world. I was stoked to get a hold of some Ten Fiddy. Very nice cashier/bartender that poured a couple samples for us. Definitely recommended if you’re in the area. | Proteus93 (1), Charlottesville, Virginia does not count - explanation | | April 30, 2008 Bright in the day (though not in the sense to hurt beers)... nice in the evenings when the lights go down. Great service, selection is good, if comparable to a couple other locations with the added bonus of the food, which is wonderful from somewhat limited experience. | | dkachur (114), Charlottesville, Virginia | | April 18, 2008 [ Updated September 29, 2009 ] This place has come a long way since opening. Good beer selection, weekly tastings, some glassware starting to creep in, a nice bar that features a few macros but also several nice beers. They will often get rarer things such as Starr Hill one-offs and the more rare draft offerings that come to the state. Food is tasty with a natural emphasis. This is a beer store, bar and cafe all at once. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area. I mean, how many beer stores do you know of that serve breakfast? There are rumors of expansion plans in the future. If they’re not careful, they just might end up becoming one of the state’s premier beer stops. The service is friendly and helpful to stangers but if you’re fortunate enough to get to know them, the service is that much better. I know I’ve walked in and found a rare beer in my hand before I knew what happened. Locals should come here and should do so repeatedly. Visitors should come here too as its one of the premiere stops in the area. The parking sucks. Other than that, this is a top notch place. | vac8ion (2), austin, Texas does not count - explanation | | March 9, 2008 [ Updated August 12, 2008 ] Neighborhood bar restaurant, and specialty beverage store, friendly helpful staff, good food, great beer selection, 400 plus bottles, really good brunch. |
