| DiarmaidBHK (307), Pennsylvania | | January 5, 2012 I hate second floor restaurants. It doesn’t mix very well with the beer. They have 12-14 taps of craft with nothing too unusual. Their bottle selection was much more extensive. The meal we ate was decent but nothing spectacular. It does put you off a bit from their food when you see the bartender and a couple of the patrons eating take out from another restaurant. The service was weird. The bartender seemed incredibly impatient for our order and rushed our beer orders. The whole vibe, even on a sparsely populated afternoon day, was off. I think all things being equal I’d rather hang out at the Mellow Mushroom or Beer Run. | | nevets4433 (26), , | | November 11, 2011 Great food and really nice beer selection including bottles and draught. One of the tap lines was a bit dodgy...it was on a cider though so it didn’t really bother me much. | | Velkyal (62), Charlottesville, Virginia | | October 26, 2010 Excellent food, decent beer selection and a good vibe, a nice place to go, even if it is in student central. Only one gripe and that is that "shepherd’s pie" is made with lamb, not beef - there is a hint in the name. | | Drake (295), Charlottesville, Virginia | | April 12, 2010 I FINALLY got around to this place this afternoon, despite living here years and knowing people who have worked here in the past. I like the ambience. Upstairs above another restaurant in the University area, there is lots of wood inside and a nice, albeit very small, balcony. It helped that I went on a perfect spring day, but the ambience was very nice, though the restrooms provide about as much maneuverability as an airplane restroom. The food is expensive and slightly above average. The beer list is pretty good, with lots of American, Belgian and a few German selections. Solid selection but not anything terribly rare. I had a pint of a local beer that I have all the time and the hops definitely had faded quite a bit. Parking is easy if you don’t mind paying a few bucks (they don’t validate). If you do mind paying, well, have an extra beer cause you’re gonna be walking. Overall a decent stop but a bit overpriced and I don’t trust the tap lines 100%. | SidewinderX (4), Williamsburg, Virginia does not count - explanation | | January 2, 2009 Nice place on The Corner by UVA. Nice staff. Great food, much nicer than bar food, and appropriately priced. Pretty nice beer selection, and an overall nice place to have a good beer with a few friends.
Also was very accommodating to a 8+ person group. | | Prometheus (23), Fayetteville, North Carolina | | December 21, 2008 Really fun place. Upstairs in a building in the Corner area of Charlottesville.
Lots of imports on the list with a varied selection. They had the correct glassware for most of the things.
Pricy food, but a good varied selection.
Highly recommended for a good place in CVille to enjoy a beer. | | biznizness (25), Mooresville, North Carolina | | March 24, 2007 Awesome place. Upstairs, in what looks like it used to be an apartment. Very cozy, great ambiance, and a nice beer list with lots of imports. I could definitely see myself spending a lot of time in a place like this, especially for late nights. We only had dessert here, which was good, so I can’t comment on food. Definitely swing by if you have the chance. | | brigg (11), Washington DC | | March 21, 2006 [ Updated April 28, 2011 ] Great selection of beers (both foreign and domestic) that is constantly changing. Belgians are always in good supply. If you can’t decide the Beer Sampler is a good call. True, food is a little pricey, but it is good. I like the Bison Burger. Wonderful place to have an initimate drink (and/or food) with a few good friends.
I’m updating this rating to say that this place has a special place in my heart. Being so close to UVA, it was where I first fell in love with beer when I was in college. I might have (subconsciously) given the ratings a slight bump because of this. | | hershiser2 (20), Charlottesville, Virginia | | March 7, 2006 I didn’t count how many Belgians they had, but it was the front and back of a piece of paper, as well as an OK selection of bottles, and a decent selection of taps, including a few oddities. Good food, nice place. | mtullius (3), Saint Paul, Minnesota does not count - explanation | | August 26, 2005 A very good place to have a beer. Michael’s is constantly rotating beer selections through, and the list is varied and thoughtful. They often have a beer on cask (sometimes one of the local C’ville brews). Food is often quite good if a bit pricey. Not at all typical of most places on "The Corner." |
