| jrallen34 (207), Chicago, Illinois | | May 28, 2011 finally made it here, came for the Lambic event... the event was pretty nice, a 99 Oude Gueze was the highlight, 2 Lou Pepe’s, some other good stuff but a lot of stuff you can get at the store, the rare ones were worth the trip, a touch pricey though... outside of the even, its a nice place with some real character, bike bar for sure... the regular beers available were solid but you can get anywhere... tons of bourbon... come for the bourbon stay for a beer and character | porterhenson (5), Illinois does not count - explanation | | November 3, 2010 I go here to drink bourbon and they have it all including a house brand. Beer is decent but with all the bourbon why bother. | | emerge077 (69), < RIP Johnnies, Chicago, Illinois | | September 8, 2010 Whats up with all the tourists bagging on Delilahs? If you want cookie cutter, theres plenty of that elsewhere in the city. Delilahs has a very respectable and broad beer list, and the largest bourbon selection in town. Look for the giant red Duvel sign outside, the beer geek bat-signal. Inside, check out the work of local artists, and an impressive display of bottles above the bar. When you first walk in, there is an awesome lit-up Oerbier sign (3-D doughboy from the De Dolle label) next to the second-floor door (pinball and pool upstairs). The atmosphere is decidedly noir, they were screening Halloween & Friday the 13th on my last October visit. Usually I end up here for the music, like the monthly Smiths night.
Ask for the bottle list to see the scope of their selection. Taps are good too, recently they added Chimay White for example. They don’t rotate much, save for a seasonal or two. New Jolly Pumpkin bottes: Luciernaga and Bam on my last visit. I finished the night with a vintage Drie Fontienen Oude Gueuze. The vintage stuff has dwindled some in the last year, but it’s still a rarity in this town...expect to pay accordingly. They also host seasonal vintage tastings several times a year.
Do yourself a favor and get a carryout pizza from Ginos down the street to bring over. Also worth a mention is the Home Tavern up the street. They have German taps if Delilahs is too crowded, and you don’t mind a dive (not a beer bar). | | nbondi (39), Chicago, Illinois | | January 4, 2010 Deliliah’s is a punk bar. If you’re not into that scene, however, don’t be shy. It’s loud, and can be crowded, but I’ve always felt right at home. Service is great, bartenders knowledgeable, beer selection wide and varied. Though Delilah’s does have a great beer selection, this is a whiskey bar, so bring your ill-tempered whisky drinking friends along! | | megrut (15), Chicago, Illinois | | October 7, 2009 Delilah’s is definitely a whiskey bar. However, they usually have some hard-to-find beers available. Staff knowledgeable. This is a true dive. For a more beer-friendly visit, check out the holiday beer tasting they have every December. It’s crowded, but a good way to sample many vintages of holiday ales. | | tytoanderso (53), SLP, Minnesota | | April 3, 2009 Go here for the whiskey, not the beer. It was nice, however to find La Folie on tap! Other than that, really not a beer destination. Very loud punk rock crowd at night. Service has never been overly friendly to me. Small, tiny and very crowded late at night. Not a beer stop at all... but absolutely, hands down, the best scotch, bourbon, rye and Irish Whiskey selection I have EVER seen in a bar. | | Rastacouere (581), Montréal, Quebec | | September 25, 2008 Around 10 taps offered mostly common micros and 2-3 macros, but I was impressed they had a Surly on. First time I catch one on draught. Small and characterful with Elvis posters, yet playing punk and power metal very loudly. I would not want to hit the place with my loved one and would probably not come if there was nothing interesting on draught, but I am happy I’ve seen the place and might definitely come back. Still, not a total priority for the beer seeker. Note that the prices are surprisingly low. | | pintsize (20), Austin, Texas | | May 29, 2008 Very strange experience. You walk in and suddenly feel as though you are walking into a Quentin Tarantino set. Dark, dank, musky, and weird. The sticky beer menu revealed a few gems like Raspberry Tart but at an insanely high price. An interesting stop for the experience and possible diseases you can catch. Not horrible, I just wish the selection of beer was a little better. | | sneagrams3 (20), St. Louis, Missouri | | May 19, 2008 Visited 4/28/08. Moday evening with Dolla American Cans. Dark dank and wonderful. Punk bar. Good music and all local folk. GI Honkers was the house draft. Shady, but a lot of gems. Good selection of scotch and other booze. We did find a Fantome ’98 in the case, along with DeDolle Mad Bitch. Fun with a dive bar feel. On of my Chicago-ite buddies favorite beer bar. | | lb4lb (25), Austin, Texas | | May 2, 2008 This place was pretty dark and had kind of like a hole in the wall sort of feel. Tap selection was pretty limited with maybe a handful of locals and other decent craft beer. There were some bottle highlights like NG Raspberry Tart, but it was $30 / 750ml which is over a 3X markup... Not a bad place to hang out if you lived nearby, but I wouldn’t go out of the way to stop by if coming from out of town on a beer trip. |
