I have to give it an overall high number because of the quality of their beers. The woman at the till and giving samples is friendly and knowledgeable. I’m told they do tours, but so far they’ve never been on when I was there. On and off for availability of their one-offs and seasonals; their stock of the specialty stuff depletes quickly, and then you’re better off going to Binny’s. Sometimes carry stuff from other great brewers. I love this place, and visit whenever I’m in Chicago (which isn’t often enough).

I wish they had a brewpub! I stopped in on a trip to Chicago, parking was easy and safe because they are close to a residential area. The tasting room is nice and welcoming, and the guy working the taps was very friendly. I talked to him about the Short’s/Half Acre collaboration and he hooked me up with a Half Acre-Captain Fantasy bottle label sticker! Worth a visit if they are open and you are in the area!

First of two breweries that my girl and visited on a recent trip to Chicago. VIBE: clean, simple, and attractive retail store has lots of Half Acre gear like tees, long-sleeve shirts, and glassware. Beer and merchandise prices are listed on two chalkboards. They also sell coffee and guest beers. Growler station had the three year-round offerings (Daisy Cutter, Gossamer, Over Ale) and one seasonal (Captain Fantasy Saison) when we came. The brewery itself is quite small, basically just a large room with a dozen tanks. SERVICE: the employee at the front was exceptionally welcoming. He gave us a quick tour of the brewery, explaining the brief history of the company and the reasons behind their limited distribution (inner city only). He asked us about our trip and did a commendable job of engaging my non-beer-drinking girlfriend while I tried a t-shirt on. Great service. SELECTION: I enjoyed samples of the Over Ale and Captain Fantasy and bought a half case each of the Daisy Cutter and Gossamer. Dogfish Head Midas Touch, Southern Tier Inequity, and Sierra Nevada Kellerweiss were serving as the guest brews. A tiny beer lineup, no doubt, but the quality is undeniable and I would definitely frequent the store on a regular basis if I lived in the neighbourhood. Prices for the 4-packs ($8.99) and growler re-fills ($12) are reasonable in my books. OVERALL: we had a pleasant time here helped along by the gracious store employee. Half Acre is well worth a visit if you happen to be in the area or going to Bad Apple (like we were). Nice brewery with cool people running the place. Check it out.

Cool place to stop on my trip to Chicago. Upon entering the front room we were kindly greeted by an employee who quickly asked if we would like to sample the beers. We tried the 3 standard beers; pale ale, brown ale, blonde. All beers were very high quality and I particularly enjoyed the daisy cutter pale. Some of the brewery employees came out and answered a few questions about the hop additions that I had. Great little tasting room with a gift shop of shwag. Wish they had at least one of their one off beers available but apparently they sell out fast. Stop by if youre in the area to try some good stuff.

Big fan of Half Acre. They brew a solid regular line up and offer many creative 1 offs throughout the year. Growler fill pricing is fair at or below for any other comps. in the city or outlying burbs. I have only ever had 2 problems and both were remedied beyond what was fair and far beyond my expectations. The only thing I don’t like about Half Acre is that I live an hour away!

We were in town and pantanap suggested we visit this place because they were releasing Captain Fantasy, the saison the brewed with Shorts. It really is a brewery with only a small room you can get growler fills and bottles in. The guy who was doing growler fills did pour us samplers of everything he had on tap though, which was nice. They also had some bottles from other breweries for sale (why I do not know) and they were decently priced too.

First of all I do like some of their beers. This being said I think they charge too much for their growler fills of the new releases. I accounted for a 1 gallon spilloff and they’re charging 435 for a keg! ....oh wait.......unlike most bars they tack on the "city/state/county" tax so figure that out. You end up paying $4.11 for a pint of growlerED beer. Also the abv on the most recent MEATWAVE is 6.5 .....not that impressive......I guess my "free bratwurst" cost me $3 because of the 3 dollar per growler difference between new release and regular on tap. Incorporated into the costs of meatwave were the staff doting some meat costumes......it was cute.....but didn’t make me forget about the overpriced beer. The punchcard system is a good Idea and I quantify those punches to be worth 1.20 and 1.50 so basically it’s like a "we charged you tax so here is your tax back when you’re loyal" ........Still pissed off paul

Stopped by for the Meat Wave release on friday. Did not see the brewerey area (October tour, will re-rate). Small shop with growler fill area, about 5 taps, cooler with some regulars and some seasonals. They also sell merchandise, like shirts, sweaters, key chanis, coffee, and other things. That they they had free brats to go with the meat wave theme. Pretty good location, lots of potential in this brewery. Love it! Update 10/29/11 Brewery Tour Took the free tour (signed up last January) on a aturday afternoon led by Gabriel himself. The place is small but well organized, they really make use of their space. Gabriel is a really nice guy, answered sevral of my questions. A really nice tour and a great place to buy beer from. Came out of there liking Half Acre even more.

Really nice location in Chicago, has a neighborhood feel with bars and restaurants on the same block. The brewery itself looks like it used to be an old auto-mechanic garage. Basically a little store front with taps for small samples, growler fills, and merchandise. They do have a cooler with cans and bottles with a few guest selections. Everyone there was super friendly. Didn’t do a tour but the brewing area was open to look around. You can tell it’s still a small operation.
