| swoopjones (190), Buffalo, New York | | May 25, 2011 wings & ribs & great beer selection. Stone Bourbon Barrel smoked porter & RIS!!! Nice belgian selection, De Proef KO, Dieu de Ciel on tap, Struise/Stillwater collab on tap. Bartender was great & willing to dole out samples. Good spot towatch games | | NobleSquirrel (161), Chicago, Illinois | | May 24, 2011 So, finally made into Melnick’s and must say I’m very impressed. The beer lines are clean, very extensive selection and in what is a beer desert of sorts, save this place. Excellent wints and they do a lot of events. Constantly rotating selection. I’ll definitely be back. | | Dfonorow (37), Hoboken, New Jersey | | May 24, 2011 Went to this place later at night during the week and it was practically empty. The service was great and their beer selection was about what I was expecting. 20 or so taps of normal Chicago fare with a few extras thrown in. Food was decent and everything was priced reasonably. Not worth going out of the way for but might as well stop in if you passing by. | TheWire (6), , Sweden does not count - explanation | | April 10, 2011 Decent tap and bottle selection for greater Chicago, excellent selection for such a prime location. Not much else going on in this area, you’d have to venture a little further up Clark St to find something on par with this joint. Food is probably godd if you like American Grease, but if you need something slightly fresher this is not the place. | | jrallen34 (207), Chicago, Illinois | | March 31, 2011 This place is a bbq joint that has a pretty decent selection of beer. The atmosphere is pretty boring, nothing special around it, not a great crowd, seemed like just some locals wanting some bbq.
The beer selection was pretty decent, they had about 20 beers on tap and probably 40 or so bottles. The tap selection was good, some new stuff I hadn’t seen before. Bottles were ok, they had some high end stuff, but a lot of the other stuff was lower end craft. There were a lot of things I hadn’t tried before, but most of them weren’t any good. The service was good, pretty knowledgable, and management stopped by to apoligize for not having a beer that was listed on online.
The food was ok, just had appetizers but middle of the road bbq joint.
Overall, the place was ok. I probably wouldn’t venture back unless they had something on tap I couldn’t find anywhere else. | | JSturm (10), Yellow Springs, Ohio | | October 28, 2010 Chicago Ratebeerians, you should get down to Jake’s and check it out. They’ve really upped their beer game in the last 18 months. Last night I was very pleased to find Jolly Pumpkin La Parcela & Oro de Calabazza on tap. Also on the Reserve Tap List were Brooklyn Blast, Surly Schadenfreude, Ska Merlot Stout, and a few several others. A real welcome addition to the downtown area. Atmosphere is what you might expect for a Levy Group restaurant. It’s casual and the service was top notch, knowledgable and friendly. Great wings too! | | janhfje (13), Skien, Norway | | July 29, 2010 Good beerselection and a short way from my hotel. | | chaz01 (17), Miamisburg, Ohio | | April 27, 2010 I had to take a break while my wife and girls were spending money at the American Girl Store nearby on Michigan Avenue. Great location, I had planned a trip to Chicago and wanted to get away for a few pints. I thought this was the place within walking distance that had the best selection -- and I wasn’t disappointed. They had a great selection of local beers (several from Metropolitan Brewery that I would’ve like to have tried, Goose Island) as well as beers not available where in Ohio (Surly, Port Brewing, several Allagash and Stone). The bartenders were very knowledgeable -- took time to answer any questions and made some excellent recommendations based on my taste. My only regret is that I so excited about the beers, I forgot to ask for a menu and ran out of time to order any food, but the menu looked OK -- sandwiches, appetizers and finger food. Definitely worth a return visit next trip to the Windy City. |
