This store has the best selection of craft beer in Chicago’s south side. About 1/3 their floor space and 90% of their cooler space is devoted to beer. My neighborhood’s Binny’s is tiny but competitive for beer selection. I usually go here instead because it’s easier to find a parking space. Like Binny’s, prices are on the high side for the common stuff and there are rarely and decent beers on sale. (Drive to Kenwood Liquors at 88th & Stony Island for the best everyday prices if you need 12-packs. 30-packs or cans in quantity). I’ve never had an employee recommend a beer to me here, although other customers have. They have frequent wine and liquer samplings, but I don’t think they employ a resident beer geek. They are always busy with a hurried checkout lane, and they card senior citizens without a discount. Still, this is a good place to go if you are in Hyde Park with $30 to spend for 2 bombers and a 6-pack of beers you haven’t tried yet.
