| JoeMcPhee (262), Jackson Heights, New York | | September 19, 2009 Oh yeah, this place is damn cool. Maps and old issues of National Geographic and National Geographic Traveller are all over the place. Well-chosen tap list and a nice bottle list as well. The bartender was good and friendly and willing to improvise non-alcoholic drinks for a non-drinking friend who was with us. She knew the list as well and was able to describe them pretty well. Lots of regulars hanging around and chatting. This would definitely be a place I’d hit up all the time if I lived in Chicago. | | PilsnerPeter (95), Flushing, New York | | August 25, 2009 Great bar. Corner location with a cozy old time ice cream parlor feel. Nice selection of eclectic tap list of both quality macros and imports. The bottle selection was cool also with lots of rare/new U.S. craft bombers at fair prices. The two bartenders were very cool, attentive and knew how to handle beer. They use properly washed glassware and give free tastes. They knew beer, which I love. A must if visiting/in Chicago. | | deyholla (14), Bloomington, Indiana | | July 7, 2009 Was highly recommended by a friend so I stopped by. A nice ambiance and service was alright, a bit slow considering it was a monday and the bartenders seemed a bit short. Though they were quite knowledgeable about their beer. A bit expensive compared to other chicago beer bars. Personally I would go to Hop Leaf over The Map Room. | | mattmc1973 (10), Sterling Heights, Michigan | | June 21, 2009 Visited last year, can’t beat this beer bar! Extensive tap list, all the proper glassware, no smoking (all Chicago is). Beer geek heaven! | | Hawksfan17 (46), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | | June 7, 2009 I would love it if this place was my corner bar! It is a little out there considering where downtown Chicago is but truthfully all the better bars are out there in the Northern part of town. Anyway, maps all over the walls, etc. I didn’t have food but they only have pastries with coffee anyway. Great selection on tap and they have a deep bottle selection too. The prices weren’t terrible and the service was friendly. | | nbutler11 (69), Phoenix, Arizona | | May 30, 2009 OVERRATED. Reminds me a lot of Ginger Man in NYC -- same crowd with a stripped down decor and less on tap. I would patron Hop Leaf over this place any day of the week. The bouncer was more welcoming than the staff. Yawn. | | daknole (90), Plantation, Florida | | April 29, 2009 Great place...subperb selection. I would have given it a higher score if some asshole staff memeber didn’t tread me like shit and tell me to take my leg off their chair so damn rudely. And looked at me like I was from another planet. Douche. But the rest of the staff was really nice and the beer is great. Super place to have a beer and relax. | | beeronmypants (11), Des Moines, Iowa | | February 27, 2009 When you first walk in the door you are a little taken back by the selection. This bar pretty much has all the rare beers that are hard to find. The staff if very knowledgeable and will talk your ear off about the beer you are drinking. All beer are served in their proper glass which again is a great plus as you get to fully enjoy the beer that you are drinking. The value is reasonable for what you are buying. You can only use a credit card if you are putting more then 25 bones on it. But that isn’t that hard to do here. I love the décor of the place as it is maps from all over. Great stop if you are rare beer lover and enjoy talking about beer with other people. | | CanIHave4Beers (54), Des Moines, Iowa | | February 4, 2009 You can’t beat the selection! My only beef is that it gets super crouded and the lighting is too dim to really get a good look at what you are drinking. Either way it is a very very good bar. I was there once and I ordered a Pannepot, the bartender got confused stared at the cooler for a while. When approced by another bartender he recieved a tongue lashing for not knowing what Pannepot was, I recieved a very curdious appology and the beer was on the house. This place takes their shit seriously. | | BVery (25), Burnsville, Minnesota | | January 25, 2009 [ Updated January 26, 2009 ] Was here in October 2008. Great neighborhood bar with a terrific beer selection. A must-stop for a beer lover passing through Chicago. |
