| Sammy (408), Toronto, Ontario | | May 9, 2012 Ranked the best store in Chicago, it likely is. Very good Shelton brothers selection, as well as twelve Percent (Evil Twin). Several US microbrews not available or sent here by distributors that were available at other small stores I visited. bottles were in the front window which was not a good idea. No breaking up of 4 or 6 packs. Service was a bit spoty but also only one server this night
| Bobbydigi (1), , Kansas does not count - explanation | | March 10, 2012 I went here twice on my short trip to Chicago. The first time was to pick up a sixer for the hotel and figure out what bars we needed to hit up for the night. The staff was more than helpful, almost giving us too may good suggestions. The second stop was for beer to take home. They have a lot of hard to find stuff here. Really great import selection. The only reason I didn’t give them a 15 on selection is because their 6 pack selection was limited. But considering how small the store is they pack it full of top notch beer. I’ll definitely be back next time I head to Chicago. | | csteele2144 (11), Chicago, Illinois | | February 1, 2012 Not the cheapest or easiest to navigate, it can actually be a bit overwhelming in the store, but there selection is top notch. | | JoePeesie (63), Long Lake, Illinois | | January 27, 2012 Not the cheapest place in town to grab a beer, but your likely to find some hidden gems here. Very nice and helpful staff. I make a point to stop in when I’m in the area. | | Travlr (637), Washington, Washington DC | | January 17, 2012 This place had more Kentucky beers than I’ve ever seen in one place before - and I’ve been to Kentucky. That should gove you just an inling into the vastness of this selection. I told them I liked sours, and an addition to the usual culprits, they produced a Norwegian sour. NORWEGIAN for God’s sake. I would like to move in here for a week just to eyeball their stash. Oh, and the service was good, and the prices very tolerable. Do not miss this place. | | ryanfolty (104), Minneapolis, Minnesota | | December 28, 2011 One of the best beer stores around and best I have been to in Chicago. Smaller space, but it is maximized. Great selection of imports and have some great local stuff as well. Service was great and knowledgeable. Have a ton of t-shirts and glassware in the next room, which was awesome. Prices were on the higher side for some stuff including the glassware, but worth the cost considering you have access to quality stuff that most other places don’t have. | | chicagodri (58), Chicago, Illinois | | November 26, 2011 Don’t know how I have never rated this before. My favorite beer store in Chicago - always the place to go to find the harder stuff. Very helpful service, fairly priced. | | bruwery (21), Lowell, Michigan | | November 16, 2011 I popped in here looking for Tyranena Rocky’s Revenge. There wasn’t any on the floor or in the cooler, but the gentleman working the counter volunteered to check in the back. He emerged a few minutes later carrying a six-pack, which made my day because I’d looked high and low for it (Even the Binny’s I went to was sold out of it.)
The selection in here was quite diverse considering the relatively small size of the place. This is a great little neighborhood store.
My brother-in-law lives only a couple blocks away, but I never knew this store was here. Now that I’m wise to it, I’ll be a regular visitor during my Chicago visits. | MasterSki (6), Chicago, Illinois does not count - explanation | | November 9, 2011 Pretty much every beer that is distributed in Illinois will turn up at West Lakeview Liquors. The staff is terrific and will make useful suggestions and answer questions ranging from "is this beer good?" to "why doesn’t Illinois get Alesmith?"
Sometimes the beer is a little more pricey than somewhere like Whole Foods, but the few extra bucks are worth it to me to support a local business with such friendly proprietors.
They also hold the occasional party where rare and exotic brews are busted out and sampled. They had a pig roast in October with Devil Dancer, Blackout Stout, and SurleyFest on tap!
My only complaint is that the store is kind of small and it can be tricky to find certain brews - particularly the organization of the Belgian Kriek/Lambic area. | | bhensonb (375), Woodland, California | | October 1, 2011 Based on phone order. Had a bit of a disconnect - apparently I discarded a message as spam. But it worked out well, and I got some great beers. Their selection is pretty darn good. |
