Overview: The Lackman in Over the Rhine (OtR) is located near several other craft beer locations in the area, such as Senate and Kruegerís Tavern. The location itself is smallish; the bar area is well presented with stained glass panels, while the perimeter has some small tables and a large, colorful bench on the wall opposite the bar. While the place was quite busy when I visited (apparently, the weekend of Bockfest) there was only a single bartender to serve the crowd. Still, I was served pretty promptly, though I missed the opportunity to talk "shop" due to the crowd.

The selection was pretty disappointing... four of the beers on were Goose Island (some sort of connected event earlier in the week?) and most of the rest were more common local craft (Rhinegeist Truth, etc.) and large craft (Left Hand, etc.). I didnít see an option for smaller pours of any type, nor were they offered. I paid $8 for a locally brewed beer, so a bit much in my opinion price-wise.

PROS: Nicely appointed space. CONS: Lackluster beer selection; pricey for whatís on offer; no apparent smaller pour options. OVERALL: Maybe I just visited at the wrong time, since there are so many other glowing reviews here, but I donít feel compelled to come back anytime soon. Lots of paid parking lots and meters in the area.

Cool bar in the OTR district. Small, but usually has a decent selection of beer, friendly staff on days Iíve been there, parking can be a bit difficult.

A higher end craft beer bar in the trendy OTR bar district of Cincinnati. Always around 12 quality crafts on tap. Of all the bars in town, this one seems to consistently get more rare and harder to find handles, the selection is usually pretty interesting. The primary downside might be the OTR-prices, however. Taps can be pretty expensive sometimes. The bar isnít too big, the atmosphere is really cool, the whole place is really beautiful and comfortable. Long bar, and tables with comfortable seats. Windows open wide when the weather is nice, allows for a nice breeze to come in. Typically good music playing, and a lot of good company. Staff is always very hospitable, and the guys that run this place know their beer. Great place, one of my most-frequented.

Iím not from Cincinnati and so the prices seemed a little steep considering the surrounding neighborhood. Lame music. No flights. Found happy hour and a deal on a seasonal. Small place. Not as much plaid as I expected in the clientele but the fauxhawk guy is nailing it. ...You can always find me coz Iím always alone... New world order!

Great beer bar in OTR. They have a good tap selection, and get some good bottles in as well. Good happy hour with friendly and attentive staff. A great spot in downtown Cincinnati.

Small bar on a very visible corner in OTR of Cincinnati. Fourteen taps, all killer, no fillers. Large beer menu to boot.

(Visited 07/2011): The Lackman is located on Vine and 13th street on the north side of downtown. Street parking looks to be the only option in the immediate vicinity. The bar is located in the Lackman building which is named for a brewery located in Cincinnati in the early 1900s. The interior is cleanly laid out with the bar wrapping around on the left side. Red padded bar stools and an arched mirror adorn the bar itself. The rest of the space is devoted to The Lackman has 14 beers on tap, including local options like Rivertown and Christian Moerlein. Other craft brewers like Stone, Bells and Rogue are available too. As for bottles there are over 50. Aside from the domestic macros, they serve regional beers like Kentucky Brewing, BBC and Christian Moerlein. Many common domestic microbreweries are represented too. As for imports they have a few such as Petrus, Chimay and the like. Lastly they have a section of the beer menu devoted to "Big Beers" like Stone VE, The Bruery Mischief, and DFH Sahí Tea. Service on an early afternoon was good. The bartenders were friendly and attentive while we were there. Not beer or service related per se but they make a damn good "Presbyterian" drink here too. We did not have any food on our visit. Overall this is a great spot to check out in the downtown Cincy area.

The Lackman is one of Cincinnatiís newest and best beer bars. The ambiance is modern and classy with very comfortable bar seating. 14 rotating taps focus on American crafts and Belgians. They seem to regularly get rare beers and serve in the appropriate glassware. Plenty of bottles are also available. Service has always been friendly, prompt, and knowledgable. They do not serve food but thereís plenty of great options nearby. Always a worthwhile stop.

On the corner of 13th and Vine with parking on street and pay lots. Nicely remodeled small building with tile floor, wood bar and slide open front windows. Good selection of taps and bottles and I had two new beers for me. Freindly staff with good knoewledge of beers. Some talk of opening a brewpub nearby sometime in near future. Happy hour prices of $3.50 a pint. Good downtown location.
