| GT2 (196), Washington DC | | July 6, 2011 Right off Plaza de Armas along the steeper uphill road that takes you towards San Blas, Cross Keys has some weird ass hours and I don’t think 10am- late everyday is necessarily true. But if it is closed, Paddy’s Pub or Norton Rat’s Tavern will be open. Cross Keys is probably the original expat type bar in Cusco, but now it has to compete with Paddy’s (more fun) and Norton’s (larger, you can play darts, and larger beer selection). So IMO there is no reason to hang out here too much unless you need to use the free wifi (but almost every hostel and hotel in Cusco has wifi so I don’t see a need for that either). Tap list is pretty much Abbot Ale, Greene King IPA, maybe Old Speckled Hen. And that’s it. Bottle list has a few Fullers beer like London Pride and London Porter. There are maybe 1-2 other oddball English beers. But nothing too excited. Really, the only craft beer place is Norton’s, though you could make the argument that any bar with taps in Peru automatically should be in ratebeer places because it is so uncommon. Definitely worth poking your head in here around 8-10pm but probably you’ll have a better time finishing the night at Paddy’s or Norton’s. | | bitbucket (62), Kirkland, Washington | | May 17, 2009 (Located just off Plaza de Armas)
An amazing and rather large English-style pub with a stone fireplace surrounded by overstuffed furniture. Loads of brass and woodwork, adorned by paintings, antiques and tons of memorabilia lovingly assembled by the owner who is also British Consul to Peru. Where else in Peru are you going to have a game or two of darts while quaffing your pint? Along with beer, spirits and wine, the serve the quintessential Peruvian drink, the Pisco Sour. There are two Happy Hours, 6p-7:30p and 9p to 9:30p. Twenty bottles and three taps doesn’t sound like a big deal by North American standards, but compared to what I found in the rest of Peru and Equador, this is phenomenal.
