DrinkEmUpJones (1), Georgia does not count - explanation | | November 19, 2009 This place is GREAT! Amazing selection of taps and bottles. Fantastic, friendly service. I went with a friend recently who ordered a Young’s Double Chocolate, and the bartender went out of her way to find a fuit beer to pair with it to create a "chocolate covered raspberry." Food is consistently good-quality and well-executed. Plus, the space is low-key but still a really nice ambiance. One of my favorite places so far in Atlanta. | | Teege (12), Orlando, Florida | | October 21, 2009 Great place. Been there a few times. Always make sure to swing by when I’m in Atlanta. It can be very crowded, which no one likes, but what can I say? Good for them. It’s because they are doing so many things right. Last time I was there with my girlfriend Matt and Erin took very good care of us and got me very drunk. The downstairs area is nice but I really prefer to hang out upstairs in the Belgian room, which is one of the best designed and decorated bars I’ve ever been to. Matt even took us down to the vaults in the basement to show us all the beer they had stored away. What a great place. | | azorie (17), Florida | | August 11, 2009 ok try as much as we could we just cannot hit this place when its not PACKED. Just too popular for me. i find the upstairs great, but the fact its NOT really a beer bar first bugs me. If they get rid of the tables upstairs or make them for the Belgian bar area only this place would be nearly great for a USA bar/pub/restaurant. The downstairs BAR looked great too bad in 10 visits we could never get near the place. The parking is legendary, take the MARTA.
The food is the main draw, has to be, otherwise why are there so many screaming kids in this place. also hold your breath as you run the outside area so many smokers out there you think they was Bar B Que ing out there, except it was Marlboro, maybe its the hipsters.
Their beer selection is great, their bottle prices hurt my wallet. I learned my lesson avoid bottle, scotch is great but again pricey, but its a bar.
ok even when we went during the week and after lunch the place was packed and the service was terrible, after you get seated and they stuck us upstairs not in the Belgian bar area. 4 tables packed in. The menu was great but we waited and waited, sad. Food was good. beer was good. They need to expand and kill all the families with kids, no I am not kidding, well yes, but I like it better if it was adults only. Service again in 10 visits only once was the service good. very sad for a so called world class #2 beer bar in the usa. The cheese plate is great. | GAManiac (1), Atlanta, Georgia does not count - explanation | | August 2, 2009 Well, I guess it’s about time I posted a review of this place since I’ve been in there a time or two lately....
The Brick Store is a small brick (of course) store front facing the Decatur Courthouse which belies the beer mecca that lies inside. There are a few tables outside, but in the current Atlanta heat, I’ll stick with the indoors.
The main bar downstairs is home to the (mostly) domestic taps, with the top local mainstays from Sweetwater and Terrapin always on tap as well as carefully selected micros and even Guinness if you’re in the mood. No BMC, thank you.
Upstairs is that little slice of heaven known as the Belgian Beer Bar. Dark wood, low ceilings, racks and racks of Belgian glassware...just a perfect place to sit and enjoy a great beer and it’s quiet enough to enjoy a good conversation as well.
All the beer is served at the perfect temperature in appropriate glassware (almost always the actual brewery being served). Kudos to Lee for keeping the beer selection diverse, high quality and unique. There are always a few beers on tap that you can’t find anywhere else in Atlanta...or the Southeast probably.
The food is well above average, including the great cheese selections often featuring local cheeses and the homemade spicy mustard, and the price is more than fair.
All in all, this is the premier beer bar in Atlanta, the Southeast, and probably anywhere in the world. I’ll have to reserve judgment on that right now, but I do know it’s the best place I’ve ever had a beer. Kudos to Dave, Mike and Tom for establishing one of the best beer destination on earth. If you’re ever in (or anywhere near) Atlanta, and you appreciate great beer, you need to make this pilgrimage. | | xs2500 (11), Mississippi | | July 31, 2009 This is a really amazing place, food is great, wonderful beer selection with a ton of brews on tap. Almost every brew comes in the proper glassware as well which is always a treat. This is a definite must if your in the area. | | daknole (90), Plantation, Florida | | July 27, 2009 Bad ass! Loved it here. The leather covered menus. The glassware. The beer! hell yeah. what a cool place. | | jolomo (10), Atlanta, Georgia | | July 16, 2009 I confess I don’t go here as often as the Porter is next door to me but this is a truly good place. The main space has always been wonderful but the addition of the Belgian room up stairs raises the stakes. The beer is the story here. Very solid selection. Unfortunately the food is pretty boring. If you’re into single malt scotch, they have a great selection. It gets very busy so plan your visit at off-hours for best results. | | AtlAggie (11), Atlanta, Georgia | | June 8, 2009 If I could create the perfect beer bar in my mind, Brick Store would pretty much be it. The only slight downside about the bar is that most nights it’s busy, if not downright packed--but that’s what happens when you do something as well as the Brick Store does. If possible get there early and plan to stay late, to fully enjoy the beer list. Awesome selection of Belgians, courtesy of the upstairs Belgian bar, and lots of outstanding American craft brews too--always served in proper glassware and proper temperatures. Atmosphere is wonderful--a true beer lovers bar, for those who appreciate good beer and good conversation (although it can get noisy at times). Food is very solid for a pub.
Parking can be a challenge if you don’t know where to look, but Decatur has plenty of metered street parking in the blocks surrounding the pub (and the meters don’t run after 6pm, and never on Sundays).
All in all, a world class bar (thankfully only a few miles away!) | BeerBaby (7), , Tennessee does not count - explanation | | May 9, 2009 Great pub and loved their "Shake and Bake" beer on tap. Good service and great food. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good beer pub. | biglakeuga (2), Georgia does not count - explanation | | April 15, 2009 I have been a loyal patron of Brick Store since before I even started enjoying beer a few years back. As a local of Decatur, my father held "Beer College" at the wonderful pub when I turned 21. I love this place. |
