| BarrelRoller (10), , | | November 10, 2009 Would definitely score higher if I lived in the area and could come by when it is not slammed. God selection but hard to order a pint because the bartenders are constantly moving around. Typical pub grub. Truly like the place just don’t try and enjoy a pint here during GABF, it’s just too crowded. Great problem to have if you are the bar owner, not great for savoring a craft brew. | | kiefdog (101), Tampa, Florida | | November 7, 2009 Visited after the members only GABF session in 2009. We had heard nothing about how epic this beer bar is during our time in Denver, and we were not disappointed when we were finally able to stop by. The place was literally at capacity and we had to wait 25 minutes to get in, but that probably only added to the experience. Once inside, we were able to get our first round fairly quickly. The number of somewhat rare to rare beers on draft was ridiculous, and our biggest problem was deciding where to start. It was difficult to tell exactly what was on tap because beers were advertised all around the bar. Price seemed reasonable. Very cool ambiance inside with multiple floors. Overall a good experience and we hope we can return when not so crowded with GABF traffic. | | beersearcher (12), Glendale, California | | October 22, 2009 A bit too dark inside. Room is cramped and more so when the crowd is hopping. Great selection. Was hard to get a good tap list from bartender. Have not had food here yet so will reserve judgement there. Prices were fair. My only large complaint is that it has a premier beer selection but it is easy to pass by good stuff due to lighting and lack of current list. | | wetherel (80), Encinitas, California | | October 11, 2009 This place is awesome! Not that I’m an expert, but probably the best beer bar in Denver. Had wonder RR publication on tap. | | CH47 (11), Kansas | | October 11, 2009 A must stop every time I am in Denver. Located downtown, blocks from Coors Field. Falling rock has numerous amount of taps on the wall and great pics at that. I have been in only during GABF several times, maybe the great selection is attributed to that.... Food is great pubgrub, waitstaff is very knowledgeable about beers on tap and eager to help you with any questions. I love how Budweiser is considered a bad word here, I jokingly ordered and you would have swore the record skipped and all the patrons angrily turned their heads. Wish it was closer to home. | | presario (105), Calgary, Alberta | | October 10, 2009 Several visits during 2009 GABF. Always packed. Great service despite what the T-shirts say. Tremendous selection. Knowledgable staff. Only drawback is the single toilet on the main floor! The 3 piece band Thursday night was excellent. | | elihapa (62), Honolulu, California | | October 4, 2009 Pretty cool joint in a great beer city. This place truly is run by beer geeks of the highest order. Two floors, 30 plus quality craft beer taps, cool ambiance. Yes, both times I came here were for special events during Denver Beer Week, but I get the impression this place is golden even on a normal weekday. My only gripe is that the bartenders seemed unusually gruff given that they work in a literal beer heaven! | | BuckeyeBoy (57), Boise, Idaho | | October 4, 2009 Stopped in a few times over the GABF weekend. This place was jam packed every time. They had a great selection on tap. Tons rare and tasty stuff. The price was a little high but maybe it was due to the opertunity to make some extra cash. Good times. | | IrishBoy (65), Bakersfield, California | | September 27, 2009 Packed of course during GABF! Too busy and no tables to get in a food order. But the tap list was great; I had Terrapin Midnight Project Depth Charge Espresso Milk Stout and Russian River Publication! | | yemenmocha (61), Glendale, Arizona | | September 20, 2009 It’s no surprise that Falling Rock has one of the best tap selections in Colorado. Not only do they offer a wide selection of quality taps, you’ll also find very RARE offerings as well - for example, some of the seasonals from New Belgium that are only offered at the brewery can sometimes be found afterwards at Falling Rock only.
My take on the atmosphere is mixed. On a quiet afternoon you can get good service, peace and quiet, and take in all of the beer related decor around the place. At night this place can get quite loud, service can be bad, and it’s just too hip for someone wanting to sit down and sample new beers, perhaps while sketching a few tasting notes. Maybe I’m weird but it has a touch of "biker bar" feel to it.
Food is fairly traditional fried pub fare selections, burgers, etc. Nothing special.
Prices are reasonable as well, especially for the beer. With many new trendy places charging $6 for national micros, it’s refreshing to see the rare specialty beers here for less than that price.
