| heemer77 (205), Urbandale, Iowa | | August 28, 2010 This has the best selection that I have seen at any Hy Vee I have visited in Iowa or Missouri. You can tell that they are really trying and they have a fairly large refrigerated singles section. I was pleased to find a few new to me brews and also a sprinkling of some high gravity items. At least they are making an effort. Now if only DM can catch up to Iowa City or even Cedar Rapids in having at least one quality beer store. | | beeronmypants (12), Des Moines, Iowa | | January 19, 2010 This is one of the best places in the Des Moines Metro to purchase beer. They try to work with the state the best they can to get the higher gravity beers in, but sometimes the state does not like to assist them. I like to drop in at least once a week to see if anything new and exciting has came in to Iowa. The staff is always friendly. Just beware of the guy that gives out free samples. He will pester you into buying beer. It’s very strange and if no one is in the store he follows you. | | CanIHave4Beers (69), Des Moines, Iowa | | March 4, 2009 [ Updated March 29, 2011 ] Most of these Hy-Vee wine and spirts places have a good selection, this is one of the better ones. It used to be the best but it’s fallen off signifcantly in the last year. The atmosphere here is fairly super market like and nothing to get excited about. Usually Hy-Vee workers are nice enough, these folks are no exception super friendly and helpful probabally more so than most other locations. However they rarely know too awful much about beer. There is a good singles cooler, and sometimes it has higher ticket beers at $1.50 a bottle in there. It’s about as good as it gets for an Iowa grocery store liquor department. |
