| heemer77 (205), Urbandale, Iowa | | October 9, 2011 A solid overall beer selection, but the prices seemed a little high to me. While good beer can be had here, this is a place you visit for the good burgers and fries first, beer second. Worth a stop in if you are in the area. Looks clean and modern. Lots of options on the burgers and dogs which, despite the beer prices, are not priced any more than any other sit down burgers. Very good food. The zombie theme is just fun. | | CanIHave4Beers (69), Des Moines, Iowa | | August 30, 2011 You can count me in as a believer. The joint officially opened up today and I headed down after work to see what the fuss was about. This place has good beer, not a whole ton of it... but plenty, and the beer menu was carefully thought out by someone who is either passionate or listening to folks who are. With a few geeky qualms the beer menu is pretty gosh darned well written and organized. I like Zombie movies in general but I figured the zombie decor would be corny, it is not... it’s about as well done and nice looking as I could possibly imagine a zombie-themed restaurant could be. The burgers are the best in the city by quite a long shot, they’re doing the gussied up burger thing right here at surprisingly low prices. The service we got on a very crowded opening night was fantastic, I genuinely felt like the staff was trying particularly hard to be helpful. The bar area is large and one could easily sit at the bar and just drink if that’s your fancy. If you come to Des Moines don’t miss it, like I said... the beer selection is good, but don’t expect any big surprises. | DrinkLab (2), Des Moines, Iowa does not count - explanation | | August 29, 2011 [ Updated September 4, 2011 ] Brand new place in the East Village featuring a great burger menu, & a very nice beer selection. The paint is still drying on this place: clean crisp execution of a zombie theme everywhere. The Beer selection is pretty well done, very few tap handles (6.. boo!) but 70+ beers available on the menu. They seem to have gone for a best-of-styles menu, with 4-6 of each major style, including bocks & lambics! International & American selections are both given space on the menu, & there are even the old reliable domestics to keep the polis happy. I hope they are able to keep the menu rotating with seasonal offerings. The food is STUPID GOOD! & Cheap too. The Chef is the same guy who has done Centro, Django, & the Gateway market, so you know its legit. Burgers, dogs, & beer! DY-NO-MITE! I’ll be going here a lot I think! |
