I preferred the other Porterhouse over this one. Less crowded, more friendly staff, nicer place. Beers, of course, are the same.

Rating during 2009 Ireland trip. The ambience of the place is very nice even with the largeness of the place. The bartenders seem to know a little to a lot about beer which was a nice change of pace as most of Ireland doesn’t seem to know anything outside the Diageo brands. Selection was all of their beers, most of them on nitro with one cask option. Good pricing as well with a variety of sample options. Food based on a vegetarians opinion was not bad. Overall it was very enjoyable and I would reccomend going if you are in Dublin.

Multi level brewpub with a menu of burgers and pub grub of decent to good quality at decent prices. Winding stairs take you to different woodclad levels with views to the streets below. A Various multitude of beer bottles adorn the walls in glass cases. Very cool place.

A huge place in several odd levels, wooden floors, dark wooden tables and benches, and a long bar a bit dysfunctional with too many punters, so it was a bit hard to get served when you weren’t sitting in the bar. Medium busy just after lunchtime on a Wednesday. 11 of their own beers on tap as well as a couple of guestbrews, and then ofcourse (for The Porterhouse) a load of bottled beers. The service when you got it was OK, though they wrinkled their nose a bit at my wish for half pints.

Visited on a quiet Friday afternoon in May, then again a week later on a very different and super busy Saturday night packed with people, this huge rambling 3+ storey old home was playing quiet music the first time and had a loud live band the second. Nine brews on tap were all good, the chocolate truffle one being the most memorable. Bottles they had of foreign brews were not kept as well but were for the most part fine. Service was good the first time, a bit slow the second (but understandable since it was so busy). We ate a very yummy Irish lamb stew. Definitely worth re-visiting.

Enjoyed the multi-level layout and bottles all around. First visit was late afternoon on a Friday, surprisingly busy at that time. Server was okay, friendly but busy and efficient. She remembered us when we returned the next night. First choice of food was not available, the burger I got instead was pretty decent. We shared 3 sampler trays to get all of the 9 house beers they had on at the time. The first couple were not good omens, but the brews improved the darker they got. The stouts were all decent, and a few of the others were good as well. The Light and Lager were pretty weak. Bottle list has a decent range, we picked out a few foreign brews that ranged in quality, some seemed to be in less than optimal shape. I got a bit of an incredulous reaction from the bartender when I tried to find out what was on the guest cask. The place was jammed on the Saturday night, the band upstairs was pretty loud. Solid spot, would return.

A favorite place for beer enthusiasts going to Dublin. Really good selction of the ba*rs own beers. They serve about ten of their own brews. You can have a sample tray of 3 different beers (of ca. 20 cl. each) for 5 euros. They have a selection of lagers, ales and porters/stouts. The service seemed a little indifferent but fast and efficient.

Best beer in Ireland, by my estimation (although I didn’t try the lagers. The stouts and barley wine were great). They had a whole lot of beer from around the world, but I just drank their beers. THE place to go in Dublin, I guess.

Very nice and cozy pub, in the center of Dublin, crowded in the evening, with a large selection of internation and home made brews (tasting is possible). very good service, the food is excellent, prepared with their onw beers. Lovely place, certainly worth a visit.

I have a nasty feeling that the guys who wrote negative comments below were probably acting like dicks. Yes, I don’t like my beer cold either, and I prefer the staff to be interested in the product that they sell, but if you stroll in like a ponce and start insulting what they’re doing, which is what it sounds like you were doing, then you’ll get what you deserve. I found the staff, with their limited knowledge, to be exceptionally friendly, co-operative, and patient, even when the place was packed. The local house brews range from the excellent (stouts) to the mediocre (ales) and alas bad (selective amnesia, I forget which one, but it was a lager and sucked). Great live music. Great vibe. Just pull the broomstick out of your arse, m’kay.
