| cgarvieuk (96), Edinburgh , Scotland | | April 27, 2012 Very nice looking bar, but beer selection was terrible poor. realy only worth it for the interior | WeissGary (6), Arbroath, Scotland does not count - explanation | | January 7, 2012 Located at the far end of the West End on Perth Road, ’The Speedwell Bar’ is a bit of a walk from the city centre but very much worth it.
The Speedwell has an array of local standard draught beers as well as Erdinger Weissbier. The Speedwell is the only pub I have seen in North East Scotland to stock bottles of Paulaner Weissbier.
The Speedwell has a stunning old fashioned interior from the early 1900s that makes it a great drinking experience; there is a great sense of history in the pub, even the ’odorless’ toilet urinals (which are apparently from much earlier times) are featured in an annual local history ’open day’.
This place can be quite packed, especially on a busy evening/weekend, however if you are looking for a fantastic atmosphere and beer in Dundee I would recommend The Speedwell! | | Rune (234), Tromsø, Norway | | January 5, 2009 Cosy and friendly pub in the university area of Dundee. Almost unspoilt Edwardian interior from the early 1900s. Just two real ales are served. Deuchars and, the guest beer, Ruddles County were on during my visit. Nothing to complain about concerning the freshness of the cask ales, but this is perhaps more a pub you visit because of the stunning interiors than the ales. A true Scottish heritage pub atmosphere can be enjoyed here. |
