| MaltOMeal (24), Land of Sugar, Texas | | September 23, 2011 Since we were in Durango to visit some of my GF’s friends and check on real estate, had to get a trip in to SKA since I like their Modus Hoperandi. The place is a large, open tasting room with a rack of clothing in the corner. Atmosphere was fine for a tasting room and very clean. Service was ok. Had a Modus on cask and another from tap. Didn’t care for it on cask. I guess I prefer to have my IPAs a little cold. Price of brew was low, unfortunately, didn’t have time to drink too many. We came during the afternoon since we were on vacation, so it wasn’t busy. Bought a T-shirt, too. I would come here often if I lived in this town. | | hellbilly (130), scottsdale über alles, Arizona | | December 26, 2010 stopped in on 7/17/10. slow time apparently. we just missed the live music... bummer.
beautiful location at the base of a frikkin mountain! good vibe. lots of beers on tap.. all of which taste better than when we get them in phx! what’swith the music?... it’s not ska at all | Powder_Beer (5), Durango, Colorado does not count - explanation | | December 22, 2010 The epitome of what a micro-brew is all about. Good/ loud music. Owners who care about good beer and love to hate the corporations...check out rotgutzen.com. Really creative marketing and just a great place to be with the local crowd. This is really a diamond in the rough...on the outskirts/ south side of Durango (near Walmart...enough said). If you are ever in the area, go to Ska! | kuelhof (3), Colorado does not count - explanation | | November 1, 2010 SKA is a great place to go and hang out and have a few beers. They have pint specials on most nights of the week, which definitely ups the value! As others have mentioned, they also have some homebrewing supplies which actually saved me a few weeks back when I need some replacement yeast and the nearest homebrewing store is 45 minutes away! Their beers are the best in town, and the atmosphere is fun, especially when there are live bands. The only downside to SKA is that the waitresses are usually stretched too thin and too busy to check on tables. Most people end up going to the bar to get another pint. A small price to pay for the great times at SKA! | | hopdog (220), Lansdale, Pennsylvania | | December 6, 2009 Located a couple miles out of Downtown Durango and worth the short trip to their bar. Stopped by ~6:00pm on a Friday and they weren’t too busy and service was good. Looks like they sell a bunch of Homebrew stuff here too for all you homebrewers in the area! | | jacquestorm (15), | | July 29, 2009 THIS WAS A GREAT BREWERY....ONE OF MY FAVORITES!!! LOVE THE BEER!!! | | amg800 (38), Ada, Michigan | | June 8, 2009 The only time I visited the brewery was during one of Ska’s Skafests’. Fun time with live band and flowing beer. There will always be a spot in my heart for a true blonde or a pinstripe. | | thelady (16), fruitland, New Mexico | | September 7, 2008 Ska’s beer is always good, but the service is the worst around. All the employees were way too into their own thing to be bothered with helping us, reminded us a college party. We were trying to buy cases of beer as well as brewing supplies and no one offered help. We each had 1 sample and headed back to Carver’s. They don’t care if you come or not, purchase some thing ot not. | | Braudog (611), Hampton, Virginia | | September 21, 2006 Sep 06: Stopped by here at dusk on a weekday. Although my expectations weren’t super high, they were dashed ... I felt about as welcome as a wart. The crowd seemed to be overwhelmingly local hippies and underachievers and the staff was less than enthused to even say "hi" ... it took about 5 minutes before anyone paid attention to us. Of course, Ska offers some pretty good beers. The brewery is buried in a dismal industrial complex, but besides the decent taproom alongside the brewery, they also sell a decent array of home-brewing supplies, too, so for that they gain bonus points as the ’beeriest" of many beer-y sites it Durango. | | 3fourths (962), Boulder, Colorado | | December 14, 2004 The brewery is located in a commerical/wharehouse district of south Durango. Limited parking, and the only thing for the beer traveler to visit is a small tasting room with a wooden bar and a few stools. They gave me samples of everything they had, and were very nice and helpful, and I bought a couple of cases that I liked. Good folks, and the dog that was in the tasting room was awesome. |
