British cask ales and good malts in a cosy pub with down to earth locals. Staff are friendly and unpretentious. Good pub.

Visited during Edinburgh pubcrawl with Craig, Fin, Loz and Arjan. Nice cozy dark pub, lots of wood, good seating, lots of (feeling at home) atmosphere here, nice decoration of hops on the beams. Nice selection of cask ales.

Excellent pubs and one of my faves in the Edinburgh area. Cozy, friendly, and beery with back editions of the Good Beer Guide since first publication. The 8 cask pumps change regularly and the chalkboard tells you not just what’s next but what’s being racked. They usually try also to have diversity in the selection--which is most welcome. Both times we were there there was a different dark beer on, so the range includes more than boring bitters. The malt of the moment is a killer value. I could live in Leith largely because this place is there. Last time we were there it was like drinking in a kennel, it’s that dog-friendly. Nice for dog owners and allows for some good entertainment, but it does make nosing your beer a bit difficult...peee-yew! No food but the pub down the street on the corner called the King’s Wark has good grub.

An oasis of real ales with excellent quality. Friendly and welcoming atmosphere. The interesting eight beers are from Scottish and English breweries. The choices are displayed on a blackboard behind the counter. Pump clips adorn the walls and the roof of the four-sided room. A kind of X-mas feel with the warmth from an open fire place, and the decoration of dried hop leaves with small lights hanging from the ceiling. Located in the riverside district of Leith (visited 12/11).
